Assuming we retain all signees and all return (no super seniors with extra Covid year) what does the roster look like for Golden’s style?

seems to me we need 2 PGs via the portal as having only one the year sucked.

We need to receive some news re: Recruiting class and returnees. At that point, we can start projecting about the roster. I'm a bit hesitant to talk about it, though, because there are a few players on the current team I'd like to see move on.

Hard to speculate at this point with no insider info

Hopefully Golden can lock down Reeves, Lane, and the signees. I wouldn't mind Appleby back as well if he can be convinced.

Other than that we'll have basically a new roster. Will be a hard situation for Golden, honestly.

I didn’t see any point guards on this year’s team. I must have missed it.

I think Kennedy could be that PG for us. I liked what I saw this year but his minutes got cut down the stretch.

Yeah he started getting less minutes about halfway through the season or so. Roughly around the time Jones’ shot started dropping so that prob contributed. Actually he was getting more time than Reeves for a few weeks and then that quickly switched. Some previously complained about CMW’s use of freshman so maybe that has something to do with it as well. Either way I think he’s got a lot to offer.

I think Kennedy is a spot up shooter, not a pg. But who knows.
The roster will definitely be a challenge for Golden. And for those of us who watch the games.

    Patience will be a necessity.

Problem is nobody knows what Kennedy is because of how bizarre his usage was this year. He rotted on the bench the last 15 games while Jones played poorly.

In the very early season I thought Kennedy was a surprise recruit and might even be the better of the two freshmen. He looked pretty smooth, whereas Reeves seemed overwhelmed. Perhaps that was clouded by him knocking down some 3’s early, he basically couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn the rest of the way. Ended up shooting 15% (!!!) from 3 on the season.

Obviously it’s hard to judge based on very limited game action. I’d like to see him back, just because he might get more PT by default. But I certainly hope Golden leaves no stone unturned to try and improve the roster right away.

Kennedy was 6 of 40 on the year from 3. Or 15%.

I’m sure he probably has more upside, and Whites offense obviously didn’t do anyone favors. But then again when a guy shoots 15% I don’t think you can call him a “spot up shooter” and it’s understandable why he was playing less as the year went on.

I thought Denzel Aberdeen was a SG, but looked him up and see that he's a 6' 4" PG. Rivals and 247 lists him as a 3*, while ESPN a 4*. If he is a PG, still need another from the portal.

If we did a fair assessment for next year....all spots are open and available for competition.

Hard to really get a good feel for his PG skill set from the highlight vids I’ve looked at so far. A lot of spot up and catch-and-shoot threes, which doesn’t mean a whole lot. A lot of strong bully ball moves down low, which you can do at 6’4” in high school but not in Division 1 SEC. I’d like to have seen more clips of his passing ability and ball-handling. Not saying he isn’t good at it, just that whoever edited his clips didn’t focus on it. Either way, seems to be a solid combo guard from what I’ve watched. Does not appear to be a facilitator type PG, but more of a scorer PG. I’ll need to watch more clips.

    This thread didn't age well.

He was playing with a lot of talent on that HS team also. So his role was "as needed" on offense. But I get the impression that he has a huge upside in terms of what he can develop into for our program. I hope we can convince Reneau to come back. I can't imagine why a departure (a quit before the fire) of a coach who brought the program down (and yet Reneau committed) would not make him more solid to the program. I get the feeling that MW recruits players to him and not to the program, and when he did not live up to his promise to a lot of these players, they transferred because they were never really invested in Florida.
