I just walked into my local sports bar…… 40+ televisions, of which one is showing the tourney. The remainder are airing hockey, law & order, a Mets baseball game, some blooper show and trivia.
I watched softball destroy A&M 11-3. I watched softball and basketball both but had to switch to SB only. Gator baseball is on now. 4-4 Bama.
Guessing the hockey and law&order were on TNT and TBS which had first round games and just not changed since? I don't know, trying to give them a little benefit of the doubt I always get a kick when I go into a sports bar and things aren't programmed for the day, who is running these places?
At 4pm Minnesota Duluth Women's hockey will take on Ohio State for the national championship. Go Bulldogs! P.S. This sports pub refrain occurs all too frequently. You've got indifference and folks who are into other things. Kinda sad when it's a sports pub w many TVs, but it's our job as patrons to help direct the channel selections. Most times I'm able to find a perch and get my server or a bartender to change at least one set to the important sports.
Does not sound like much of a sports bar. Gator dockside and others do better than that around Gainesville and Ocala most days as does ale House and other restaurants.
I think the Florida Legislators should mandate AT LEAST 80% of all TVs in ANY bar claiming to be a Sports Bar MUST tune in to the Tourney, when games are on or - First offense $500.00 fine. Second Offense: 1,000.00 fine. Third Offense: Owners must go 24 hours in the green swamp, naked, with no cutters!
tbh, when I lived up in Charlotte & went out to sports bars to watch UF's championship teams, few were watching the ACC tournament teams. The times I did see their fans out, to my girlfriend's embarrassment, I was the only one getting loud while watching, lol.
The Panthers are really good at hockey this year and are the local south Florida team. I would get them being on some of the TV's if they were playing. I have even made the drive to Sunrise to see two games in person when they were playing the Blackhawks. I am from Chicago. My youngest son was a Blackhawks fan but is now trending Panthers. In 1983 I was new in Gainesville and didn't even own a TV. I saw a lot of games at Nellie's Raw Bar and the championship game at The Press Box. Both places long gone. Nellie's had really good wings.
Some bars are into that and get a rowdy and usually drunken crowd even in the morning. Premier League fans mostly.
