Barnes is the worst tournament coach I know. No one underperforms like he does, it’s almost like a superpower.
in the last 14 years (10 tournament appearances), he has made it past the first weekend exactly once. And that was only to the round of 16. Every year it’s a “2/18” or some other anomalous performance that sinks them. At some like point, it isn’t luck or chance.
As much as I dislike Tennessee, I cannot celebrate Michigan advancing. This is due to Howard’s outrageous behavior in punching an opposing assistant coach and absurdly light punishment for doing so.
Winning conference tournaments always seem to take it out of teams. When filing out my brackets I always have those teams losing opening weekend.
A team cannot advance in the NCAA Tournament without timely 3-point shooting. Billy Donovan's best teams were often stocked with great 3-point shooters! Tennessee played fairly well against Michigan as there were numerous lead changes and ties in the game. However, the vols lacked that spurtability-factor to pull away from the wolverines. Late in the 2nd half, Tennessee missed numerous 3-pointers.
