I don't want him to feel too comfortable yet He still has a ways to go before I'll start calling him Uncle Stricklin like we did with Foley
I don't really have a problem with Golden. If he works out, great. My problem is with S/S. It appears (at least to me) he didn’t even try to get big time or proven coaches. I mentioned Mark Few, Brad Stevens and former gators coaches. The Baylor coach won the NC last year and seem to have a good team every year. He doesn't make a whole lot more than CMW. Is he telling me that he can't lure this coach to UF? And no. I don’t claim to be an expert AD, so don't attack me. I'm just putting out the question out there. It seems like a Mullen move to me. Short arm the program. SMH.
No, Mark Few, Brad Stevens, Billy Donovan, nor Scott Drew were going to come here. We are a good job. We aren't one of the top 5 jobs in the country. And even those jobs would struggle to land that list.
That's behind Mark Few, Mark Pope, Herb Sendak, and Randy Bennett. WCC is very underrated by most folks.
I like the hire, he did a great job at San Franciso and got them into the tournament this season as an at-large. He gets the most out of his players and hopefully can keep our top recruiter on staff so he can work with an upgrade in talent.
These kinds of posts drive people away from this board. Whether or not you think the youth are alright really has no implications on the success of failure of UF basketball.
Why so poor at UF then? I sense he is not a great coach. If he could not get it done at UF, then why would he be better at georgia?
TBH, I have no idea. If he's not an exceptional recruiter, then developer, he won't likely do well anywhere, especially UF. Have to see what happens but it does feel a bit like the Foley Doctrine. However, he might be great. I couldn't follow Mike White, but then again, I am not a huge hoops enthusiast. I hope it was after careful deliberation and a thorough enough search that our AD decided on this coach.
I'm definitely concerned about recruiting with this hire. He's a west coast guy all the way. I understand that he was at Auburn for a couple years, but that was over 5 years ago and as the assistant. I would imagine he has to develop all new relationships and we have no idea if he can recruit at this level as the head coach. That is a huge risk to take not knowing what kind of recruiter he is. Very underwhelming hire imo, but I'll still be hoping for the best. Will still watch all the games and hope he brings us back to being a consistent top 25 team.
