Pretty excited about this hire myself. If you look deeper into what his teams accomplish statistically, I’m happy. I hope we can become a fun high scoring offense again. The talent will come if his scheme fits. Sh$t, At least we will have a true identity.
But what if they do. You gonna come back in three years and take your medicine? Give it a second dude and let’s see what happens. Nobody knew Sully or Billy D either. Just wait and let’s see what happens with both before jumping to the worst. Miss State? Please “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
I've fallen down a bit of a Youtube rabbit hole, but there is some interesting stuff out there on him if you dig deep enough. If you search Todd Golden Golden Hour, he does interviews with their athletic site going in depth 30-50 mins on everything from analytics, x's and o's, building a staff, scheduling, etc.
Just hope he's not all analytics and nothing else. The coach of the Chargers is like that as its always up to the chart no matter what the risk is, which drives me crazy. As for the hire, why not wait for McMahon. I guess SS was like.. okay Murray St. vs SF. I like both coaches so loser I'm going to offer the job to as i don't want to wait. Seems kind of rushed if you ask me. Of course will give him a chance. Maybe he knows Jalen Reed so he could possibly keep him. Think he's a long shot with Reneau and Aberdeen more likely since both are from Florida. Has to keep Reeves and Lane. First 2 calls. Then call those recruits. Of course I'll give him a chance and retaining some of these guys would be a great start.
So, not who anyone expected, not who most wanted, and even less happy with Stricklin's choice combined with his contract figures. But heck, it's already done! Let's now show support and excitement for our new coach, who certainly could be a good one, so we help recruiting instead of hurting it with a collective negative outlook.
An acceptable hire. No one will really know until we see how he recruits and coaches during games. I imagine Strickland didn't/couldn't spend the money to land a bigger name. With the Mullen buyout (and perhaps some pay-off for Mike White to walk away to Georgia), it is just not the time to spend big on a basketball coach. That said, if this one doesn't pan out (and assuming Napier does pan out), then time to open the purse and pursue someone with more established credentials.
Consider the possibility all the money is Billy's. Then again, $18 mil is a lot of beans. I'd bet SS is very happy with Golden.
I sure hope you are right. Geez - I put an honest day's work in and miss that our beloved friend and mod HallGator has passed and that we hired a new basketball coach. Did anyone predict this hire? I'm serious. Was this name on anybody's radar?
Question, has anyone seen Golden and Eric Fawcett at the exact same place and time? Hmm, maybe, just maybe...
Well, Napier worked under Saban and Golden worked under Pearl. Maybe they both get "the system". We shall see.
