Thanks. For your last comment, getting a bid made that much of a difference? Or do you think somebody else would have already hired him if he weren't in the tournament. I mean, it's great to have (one game) tournament experience, but he's either your guy or not. The decision of the committee shouldn't really change that.
To me, this appears like a more "I hope this is going to work" than "I know this is more likely to work." Makes zero sense given what we are coming off of and where everyone has been clamoring to be.
Can't wait to see how it works out. This could be a great hire, as long as he can recruit, which is always a big key.
True. Season is still going on so might as well wait until recruiting season to think about recruiting. I mean how can someone whose not a Florida guy recruit in the state. It’s not like there are good players from other places
Good news, we got a coach who can go to work recruiting and instill offense. He is young but has played in college and overseas getting paid. Recruiting connections overseas is a check for me also. Since he is coming from San Francisco, I guess that makes us the “Grateful Dead!” LOL I hope all Gator players with eligibility left and the new recruits that are coming will at least meet with him in person.
We know that he can’t coach defense because our former 11th string point guard, Ques Glover, scored 24 points against his team this season, which means that Appleby would have scored 72 points against his team.
No matter who we would have hired, you never know if it is going to work out. So to say “we should have hired this guy!”, it could end up worse than this hire. Look at our last 3 football coaches. Busts. Let’s hope SS got this one right - that’s all we can do. We also need to hope he can handle it when a section of fans don’t approve (and that was a joke).
As Hallgator would say, let’s just see how this works or shakes out. I wish my NBN buddies the best of luck with this hire!!
How long before we start calling him the Golden Boy? Honestly never heard of him, and I wanted to hire Rick Pitino, but I’m all in on our new coach. Let’s see who he can bring in and looking forward to a fresh start.
I suspect it's easier to recruit international players to San Francisco than to Gainesville. It's actually a nice campus--near Golden Gate Park
This thread reads like, "they didn't hire the guy I wanted and I don't know about this guy, so it is a bad hire." No one here has a clue if this is a good hire, a reach or a bad one. I think it will be interesting to see and I hope, fun to watch.
