Todd Golden named head coach

Lots of good you tube videos of coach Golden, including a series where he explains his analytics approach. Also some post game interviews which are good if you want to learn more about his style.

 

I just checked the San FRancisco roster and they have guys from everywhere, including the USA and oversees. So much of the recruiting today is through AAU but those relationships elsewhere are also critical. 2021-22 Men's Basketball Roster - University of San Francisco Athletics

Yeah, interesting video interview with him by Bill Cartwright. It's around 45 minutes. A lot of his history, gets into his time in the SEC and Bruce Pearl around 24 mins in. Some really good stuff in there, talks about recruiting, SEC being the pinnacle of collegiate sports, etc.

Just curious, did anyone see this as real possibility prior to today? I personally thought the Murray St HC was gonna be the choice. It fits Scott’s style though, rolled the dice on a young up and comer right at the curve. I’m guessing Todd Golden didn’t cost all that much either, for now.

I dont have any words strickly because I dont know anything about him

 

Seems he already got a 6 year deal. We'll see for how much $, but I worry it'll be as if we were competing with the top programs for him and will give him a 4 year extension halfway in.

Forgot to say, he definitely could be a good one and I definitely hope he does work, just hoping we're smart with extensions and contracts.

Overall seems like it could turn into a nice hire and the guy should be given a chance. One positive about being in the NIT is that he can see some practices and a game if they can beat Xavier Sunday.

Interesting hire. I'm cautiously optimistic. We just hired two coaches that use processes & numbers to help manage their team. Maybe the entire athletic department is moving in this direction. We'll know this when Stricklin to invites O'Sullivan over for movie night & puts on Moneyball.

i know of the timeline.
I was admittedly wrong about not thinking this would progress as fast while the targeted coach was still playing.
But this all unfolded from Sunday forward… beginning w/ white’s decision.
Also- I really don’t think Golden is even a candidate unless San Fran gets the bid on Sunday.

 

This is what I’m talking about. I can’t wait to see heads explode around here.

 

No one can sweat like Pearl

 

If you have to ask "How's his recruiting," that leaves you all you need to know.
This was a crap hire.

 

Then what happens is you foul them on a made basket and next thing you know your down 1.

I get it if they have a terrible free throw shooter on the floor. But have some confidence in your defense and get a stop.
