Todd Golden named head coach

A lot of posters are not going to be happy about this-might have to move this to THFSG. LOL.

 

From everything I read he was a very hot name in the coaching hire circuit

 

57-36 as a HC (3 seasons) in the WCC. Highest finish in conference is 4th.

Gotta say i'm underwhelmed, but willing to give him a chance.

 

Not sure of the animosity towards young, inexperienced mid-major coaches. One of them has his name on the O-Dome court.

 

I think it's a great choice.

 

Grant and Shaka were never coming, and were likely never even considered. If they hadn’t coached here they wouldn’t even be mentioned.

 

Hopefully Coach Golden has the Midas touch for the Gators I couldn’t resist

 

This seems awfully risky.

 

He does recruit players out of Israel and has ties to that region so we have that going for us and might just see another Nimrod on the roster!

Getting an at large bid as a 10 seed at a school that hadn't been to the tournament in 24 years is pretty impressive. Just no way of knowing whether that was a blip or indicative of a good program builder.

Just thought this part was interesting. Hope this situation works out for Coach Golden and the Gators. Go Gators!

 

I wonder how many recruits in the southeast even know who he is? I wonder how many high school coaches in the SE even know who he is?

 

Lol. Stricklin might as well get this tattooed somewhere.

 

Not the type of hire I was hoping for but he is now our coach so let's rally around him and see what happens.

I kinda figured this would be the reaction. I winced when I was seeing names like drew and Bennett. But give Golden a chance. He is very confident, personable and hard working guy. I think he will win some people over during the press conference.
It would not have been my first choice, but I am all in.
He immediately needs to get on the phone with Kowacie.

 

Yeah, I think the lack of leaks here kind of hurts the rollout. Usually a name starts to leak, people do some research and get on board. This just sort of dropped out of left field. I know I am in the minority, but I actually love rolling the dice on up and coming coaches. We'll see. I think the article by Eric up on the front page can help get people excited. Seems like someone that can win over a press conference as well.

 

For what it's worth, I think it's a perfectly reasonable hire with a decent chance of working out well.

 

How do you think he'll do recruiting against Cal, Oats, Pearl, Barnes, Musselman, etc?
