To answer your question, we all knew that had MW stayed, we would not have had BD. So staying that course had zero chance of the dream result. Indeed, we know exactly the expected result: not making the tourney this year and barely getting in most years, and not competing for titles. There are many choices that have been thrown around including scott drew, Dennis Gates, Matt Mcmahon etc. And, as many have stated, this guy does not have to be BD to satisfy UF fans! He just can't have a team that is outside the top 20 teams most of the time, does not compete for SEC titles, and is regularly about 4th/5th in our conference. Think a number of coaches can meet that mark. And there are folks that make millions to sort this (agents, services, ADs, etc.). So the question of "where do u" get the next BD, in addition to being an over stated goal, is properly directed at folks who do this for a living. Challenging a fan board to produce names does produce names, it just produces names that don't mean anything.
Actually, a coach quitting on us before the season is even done is not the same thing as us pushing them out, is it? Who's the "Gidiot" here, Mr. Long-Time Florida Writer?
Let’s not be pedantic and latch onto a “he technically quit before the last game” narrative. He was being pushed out and a vocal part of the fan base has been clamoring for his firing for years. He chose to leave himself before he was asked to leave. Also, while he won’t be there for the NIT, let’s not act like the season isn’t effectively over. Had he left before the start of the NCAA Tournament, that would be entirely different.
That'd be an elevation of Georgia's basketball program. I don't doubt that he'll be a lot more successful there than Crean because White will probably be able to bring in some transfers early on to make them competitive whereas Crean swung for the fences with highly-touted recruits that left the program a mess after transferring out, but I don't think White will elevate that program into the upper-half of the SEC.
Mike did what he had to do. It was the best move he could make and I'm sure he didn't have a lot of time to tell the Poodles yes. I still believe that Stricklin would have kept Mike for another season. I give Mike credit for realizing that being a lame duck was not in his best interest.
I talked to one this week and he said one man's garbage is another man's treasure. He said they will be happy just to get to the tournament.
I hope they understand that the tourney they land in will have the letters N, I, and T in them for at least the first year or two.
It will be interesting to see if he takes his recruits and any current players with him. I sure hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me.
First of all, I don't think under any scenario a player should be held accountable for the LOI signing when the HC leaves. Turnabout is fair play. But to the current players, the recent "Mulligan" rule pretty much says guys can and will leave. You just hope they are more attached to the university than they are to a particular coach. We shall see.
Did not know he had been relieved of command. Surprised georgia wanted him. I am such a poor hoops fan.
