I rather famously… or Infamously… floated the name “Mike White” in the days after Billy left. And so, without further adieu … I offer my obscure pick. Well, wait… let me give some adieu…. This coach has engineered a massive program turn around … tripling his teams win total in his first season. He was a finalist for the Joe B Hall award… recognizing the nations top first year coach. In the two years since, his team consistently ranks among the nation’s highest in offensive tempo and scoring. He won his conference COY award, captured the conference title and will play in the tourney. He is an aggressive recruiter, spearheading those efforts as an assistant at Iona and Fordham, the latter at which he grabbed a class that ranked top 25 in the nation. He is a passionate personality…. Nearly beating Syracuse this year, and then publicly blasting Boeheim for “making excuses”. ladies and gentlemen… I present you the head coach of the Bryant Bulldogs…. Jared Grasso. <raucous applause>
Hmmm. Yea I can see Gator fans not being thrilled about this one st all. Lol. Hopefully if it is him, he turns out to be a great hire though.
"Jared is a rising star in this business. His work ethic and passion are second to none. He has helped build a mid-major dynasty at Iona. His winning pedigree will help put the Bryant men's basketball program on the map." – Will Wade, LSU Ouch
I guess he is the. Brother of Ted Lasso? Kidding aside, seems like an up and comer, But taking small time coaches is always a risk but he sounds interesting. He probably needs a couple of years in a major program as an assistant to make people feel a little more comfortable. No telling who SS is talking to, but the wait and see approach will show me how he operates and if we are just filling a hole or we are going after someone who has proven he can coach and recruit at a big time program.
I am unimpressed. Obviously, they lost, but beyond that (and recognizing that one loss doesn't mean much), they play fast largely because they just chuck up shots and don't pass. I have had enough of offenses that don't pass after the last 7 years.
Well- Tampa (Linder) and I have officially jinxed our obscure picks. Lol! And so, for my next obscure pick… John Calipari.
