Why are you so bothered about comments towards a coach no longer employed by UF to attack a string of posters that offer an opposing opinion? Being dissatisfied with mediocre results does not = hater.
I'm still trying to figure out how we simultaneously have no basketball fans and mobs of rabid basketball fans mad that White didn't win the last 6 NCAA tournaments.
I worked with Mike at the Sun in the mid-'80s. His boss was Jack Hairston. Mike may have left and returned, IDK (or care) what happened after I left.
That tweet from the National columnist wasn’t a coincidence. My guess is it was leaked by the Mike White camp as a justification for the lateral move to UGA. Appearance is very important, and I believe his camp would like the narrative to be that he left UF due to the unreasonable expectations/behavior of UF fans, instead of leaving because he just wasn’t getting it done here and his seat was steadily warming up.
Ok… I’ll just be honest. I’ve avoided the topic, bc it is far more complicated than “it’s the fans fault” But here is a truth…. Coach and his family were very hurt by fan treatment, and his move was largely due to shielding his kids. I can also tell you that players were very upset by how they perceived their coach treated. Now - in faintness, there were valid reasons for critique, and this is part of big time athletics. Criticism and solecism media attacks are hardly unique to Florida. But, considering who Mike is, the circumstances of his tenure and how he represented the program… was it deserved, or did it go too far? I guess that can be debated. (<— though I’m not interested in debating it)
I've always thought part of White's problem was not that he lost some big games...it's how he lost them. At least how it appeared. The Oral Roberts game last year, The Carolina game in in the Elite 8...etc. As SOS once famously said...10 years(White was only 7) is a long time to coach somewhere.
Does this mean that we shouldn’t expect to win at football either since we didn’t win our first official sec title until 1991, two years after basketball won its first sec title. We then won a national title in football under spurrier. Should expectations have been that It’s a one time thing and football couldn’t and should t be expected to win more? Flash in the pan with that one natty in football? we all know the story…we won national titles in football again and two in basketball. Basketball was technically ahead of football since basketball won an sec title before football did. standard should be competing for sec titles and or sec tourney titles in hoops. Do that and ncaa March madness crap shoot may or may not result in a natty but have to be competitive in chasing sec championship.
I had recently written that Florida basketball fans are more often heard than seen. Such is the current case.
Blah, blah, blah. Your takes are creative, at best. I guess you’re still all broke up over DM getting fired, too? Smh
Even if you are correct that our “standard” is mediocrity then you have nothing to worry about. The worst we can do with a new coach is being mediocre. Do you really think a new coach will do worse than being the 40th top program?
Constructive Criticism was deserved and I've no problem standing by that. The crass drivel by every casual fan or troll was not but Is the nature of today's sleezy social media
I saw someone mention that on Twitter but it is a dubious claim. Were other kids at school calling their dad Mid-Major Mike? Was his wife getting comments at Publix ala Megan Mullen? Get some thicker skin or have your husband change careers to something that isn't as high profile. This is stuff that, right or wrong, comes with the job and will happen everywhere. Gainesville doesn't have some sort of monopoly on bad human behavior.
