The B-52’s…….this band was much better than their “hits” would lead one to believe. I absolutely find nothing worth listening to from their radio playlist. I once made a derogatory comment about their music on the way to dinner with my girlfriend. She was offended and let me borrow one of their cds. I was pleasantly surprised how good they were. Lenny Kravitz and Blues Traveler were both excellent at The Band Shell. Lots of smoke in the air.
I can vouch for Planet being there. I though they were MEH. Wendy O Williams with the Plasmatics was more entertaining. Seems like we saw Reckless Eric at the Rat also. Saw Huey Lewis on campus, too. Don't forget Devo, fun concert. Don't remember B-52s being there.
I didn't know Devo played UF. Must have been after I graduated. I did get to see Blondie and Rockpile (Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds). Also the Ramones... they sucked. Let's see, also the Outlaws, Wet Willie, Steve Forbert. Forbert was really quite good. Saw a bunch of pub bands also. My hearing has never been quite the same since the Outlaws concert. Constant tinnitus ever since, especially in the right ear... I was too close to a main speaker on my right. My advice to the kids... wear earplugs, stuff tissue into your ears, protect your hearing. The late, great George Martin made it a mission in his waning years to protect the hearing of concert-goers. He pointed to research showing that breaks or pauses from the concert allows the ear a chance to rest a bit, which greatly limits the damage.
I will NEVER forget my Halloween Ball - Had a Devo outfit and a band, fresh from England, called the "Gang of Four" we're rocking! Album - "That's Entertainment" still a favorite.
I'm really torn right now. I see both sides. A couple weeks ago I'd have said we need a change. Now that Coach White has rallied the team (which I give him credit for) I'm kinda' thinking "see how they finish." Just my 2-cents. Sorry @bullish . . . I didn't mean to encourage a thread hi-jack on a great subject and player.
Lenny is one of my favorite artists. Seen him twice live... once in Salzburg, Austria and the other time in Stuttgart, Germany. At UF, I went to some really good free concerts at the Bandshell. A Tribe Called Quest Busta Rhymes Buju Banton Redman
going to be our best player next year! I hate to even bring it up, but any chance we lose him bc of the coaching change?
Kowacie is the truth. My initial criticisms still apply… somewhat stiff movements and hitch in his shot, but you know what… it doesn’t matter, the kid can flat out ball and is fearless. None of what I saw as weaknesses in his game seem to have any affect on his ability to get buckets. I’d love to see a little development on the ball handling side. If he could get a little more fluidity in his motion, it would take him to to a very dangerous level of good. As it stands, he’s got to be a contender for All-SEC team next year and potentially a first round prospect.
Good post. Really like Reeves thought he was brought along like he should have been, but he has really improved, along with lane. Get a coach the players believe in who knows.
K is looking more and more SPECIAL! Ain't no one talking about the "haircut" now as much as those corner THREE's........MONEY!!
The Red Hot Chili Peppers played the Florida Theatre downtown....when the show ended, they suggested to keep the party going....so they invited everyone to Sig Ep and played there
Enjoyed a lot of the shows mentioned. My favorite was probably front row BB King at University Auditorium.
Wendy O Williams from the Plasmatics "performed" with some potted chrysanthemums that lined the stage & gave them to me, lol. Lots of fun back then, I'm glad I didn't miss out on the freedom we had. UF Digital Collections
Did you think Reeves was brought along wrong you could be right that was just one person's opinion. No way Lane was ready early in year. Again my take. They are ready now
