Layola of Chicago was a bad loss but my goodness they made the final four. Am I saying Texas Southern will make the final four?? Heeecckk no but I am saying hindsight is 20 20 and we do over react in the moment a lot of times. All that said, we shouldn't have loss to them at all.
Ehhh . . . I respectfully disagree. There are some "well buts" associated with that loss. In the end, I think the two teams are much closer in quality than anyone thought back in December.
their RPI is 196, their ELO is 136. But it wasn’t so much we lost (even though it kinda was), it was much more that we got dominated. It wasn’t like we had one bad 3 minute stretch that cost us late, we were down double digits at halftime and lost by 15. It was never competitive. That was the unforgivable sin. And our coaching staff had no clue what to do with the offense TS ran.
by the way, some more fun stats from that game, for the masochists among us… TS had 14 offensive rebounds to our 8. But the fun part of that stat is that they had those 14 on only 26 misses so their ORP was over 50 percent. They shot 54 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3. They won despite committing 22 turnovers to our 10, and only shooting 5 FTs. On our side, we were 16-31 from 2, but as was the case all year, jacking up threes seemed smarter, where we were 5-24. We were 7-16 from the FT line. And my favorite stat of the night, we were outrebounded 46-23. all that at home, against a team that was 0-7. It’s really hard to even fathom.
