Interesting that Grant takes a guy that no one has heard of and turns him into the best player in the country while White takes the top transfer in the country in Kerry Blackshear and turns him into an ordinary player, and, yet, you unwaveringly continued to support White.

Interesting that despite kerry’s statistics being nearly identical to his best season at va-tech, you opt to paint a picture in which He regressed considerably at Florida.

That aside - reread my post and you may find that I very clearly recognized Grant for “finding and developing” Toppin. You either missed that part, or just wanted to pick a fight. I’m not interested in the latter.

How slow was BD in 2014? He was one of the slowest coaches.

Blackshear had a limp his entire time at UF.

Not correct. He had a weird running style. He always had it.

Dayton was better under Archie. Alabama is better with oats. If Grant or Shaka had never been to uf , they wouldn't even get a mention.

    Why?

Shaka has been to the tourney 9 times in 13 seasons… and that is NOT giving a bid during the Covid year, despite being a bubble team. He has also been to the Final Four.

Grant has been to the tourney 4 times …acknowledging the Covid season…. in 14 years.

    So what doesn’t make sense?

I know its just one game and its not over yet either.

Regardless, I'm not particularly impressed at this moment.

he had it walking too. First time I saw him from court side I assumed he had an injury.

I think it's kind of silly to use tournament bids to make these kinds of comparisons when you can go 8-10 in major conferences now and still make the tournament, especially when Grant had multiple 12-win seasons in the SEC where Bama did not make the tournament. It's a lot easier to make the tournament as a major-conference team now than it was a decade ago if you're anywhere close to .500.

Shaka had a sub-.500 conference record at Texas. His tenure there was no better than Grant's tenure at Bama. Grant has coached a genuinely elite team at Dayton. The Final Four run for Shaka is impressive; I think a 29-2 season is more impressive and better indicator of sustainable upside.

fair point, but it was also an aberration for Billy. The last three years for Linder it was 333, 125 and 271 I think.
Maybe it’s entirely based on his personnel, but he also recruited those guys in his last year at northern Colorado and most of the guys he has now probably.

Tournament selection… then and now is based upon resume. Shaka has consistently had team resumes strong enough to make the field. Grant has not.
    And that includes this season.
I really like AG, so I am going to bow out. I hate arguing against him.

Linder's two best players have combined for 14 turnovers.

Despite Ike they're getting killed on the boards.

    Does this sound familiar?

I mean -- yeah. But it's much easier to make the tournament in an 8-bid league than it is to make the tournament in a 2-bid league. Making the tournament when you go 8-10 in-conference is not at all impressive. Going 14-4 in the A10 and narrowly missing the tournament is honestly more impressive to me.

Plus I think you have to consider that Shaka inherited a program that had missed the tournament once over the past two decades before his tenure.

yeah, hate to judge a coach on one game, but literally everything I didn’t like about MW is on display here. Slow, offense, bad rebounding, turnovers, running the same offense over and over even when it doesn’t work, few in game adjustments etc.

Also just as a warning don't pile on Grant if/when they lose to Toledo tomorrow. They probably don't have much of a chance if their PG Malachi Smith is out.
