Your opinion is welcome, his not so much. He is the head coach for the Georgia Bulldogs now. He was not fired, so he has been negotiating with Georgia for a good minute now while coaching the Gators. I kind of thought this would be a decent way to both get out some frustrations and also not be jerks about it.
CMW is a good coach in general and will maintain a 20-11/18-13 type record most years. I liked his idea of scheduling a good OOC slate to build his team for March. However, his undoing was inability to develop the talent he brought in. This maybe related to his inability to put together a cohesive gameplan around his players or not recruiting to his system like Billy did. Maybe he did not have a system and tried to adapt the coaching to the talent that was available, but hasn't completely figured out how to do that yet...In any event, his undoing has as much to do with a lack of improvement year to year, possibly from lack of player continuity/development.
What a crap take, he used the exact same nonsense when Mullen was let go. "never satisfied unless a coach delivers multiple championships"? how about 1 of any kind?
Seneca wrote that luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. Luck is something that is earned. Unfortunately, many in our society think differently about this concept. Being born lucky, etc. As for the good and bad of White, I thank him for his handling of the transition from Billy and the Elite 8. It was important that we got off to a good start in the post Donovan era. The bad, we all agree on. His inability to capitalize on that E8 success and build on it. The reasons have been hashed out here ad nauseum.
Agreed. I've said that I fell off the MW train after the Oral Roberts loss. The table was set perfectly for him to gain a lot of momentum in the future with another sweet 16 or elite 8 run. Instead, he coached not to lose and ended up getting upset. His defensive sets and execution were always solid, but offense and late game strategy were non-existent.
I'm a little disappointed in a few of you here with this softball question opportunity. Good - A Dunedin, Florida native Bad - HE NEVER FLIPPED THE CAMERAS!!! I know I know blame it on the UAA but if I'm the coach you make sure its part of my contract.
I just shake my head. He and Robbie get giddy over calling GATOR fans "gidiots." They'll tell you it's not meant to apply to all GATOR fans, but they lack the ability to properly express that nuance. Pat Dooley is glutton for punishment, I think he can't help but try to paint himself as the enemy. He can finally let the cat out of the bag and express his passion for the GATORS, but he hasn't shed that desire to portray himself as a target and take shots at GATOR nation. Just a weird thing to get joy out of. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
GOOD: by all accounts his players loved playing for him, seemed like a nice enough guy, very easy to root for and want to see him succeed BAD: the most frustrating part about his time here is his inability to retain players to build a core to come up through the system and have a home-grown set of upperclassmen. Would love to know an honest opinion from him on what mistakes he made and what (if any) adjustments he tried to make along the way to attain a different outcome. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
I really don't have much criticism other than I thought he was not a very good game-day coach. Out-coached in way too many situations. Great hard-working guy who ran the program the right way. This is one of my favorite moments:
I didn't open the article, but I already guessed it was Dooley. Anyway, I don't have anything bad to say about Mike. Don't need to. I want to thank him for taking UF to the elite 8 and for saving UF buyout money. Just kidding.
I don't know a single Gators fan that expects us to win multiple national championships on a regular basis in any sport. I do know many that think averaging about 12 losses a year, many unexplainable, isn't what we should be seeing year in and year out as we have during Mike's tenure. Dooley likes being contrary, and calling fans gidiots for not accepting mediocre is inane. Dooley better be glad that the Sun was okay with mediocre or he would've been unemployed long ago.
The good: Seemed like a good guy. Didn't do anything to tarnish the image of UF in any way off the court. Likable as a person. The bad: Too many losses to opponents we shouldn't have lost to on a regular basis. Wins against good teams followed by a bad loss. Didn't have the ability to coach a team to put another team away while letting teams back into games where the outcome was either a struggle for a win or ended in a loss. I think the lackadaisical way the team performed against A&M in the SEC tournament with their NCAA tournament lives on the line epitomizes his inability to motivate.
Great: Nice man, clean program Good: In bound plays Okay: HS recruiting Bad: Attrition, development Awful: Offensive tempo Disgusting: He is a Dawg
Setting up the senior day memory for Keyonte Johnson was something he’ll remember for the rest of his life. Mike White didn’t have to do this, but went the extra mile. That is certainly a good moment in the Mike White Era. With that said I’m excited to see who Florida can get yo transform the program back into the upper echelon of the SEC. Go Gators!
It was awesome, but are you sure Coach White is the one that set it up? Not saying he isn't, but I haven't heard that it was his idea either.
Good: He’s a great human Bad: anything that involves coaching at a school with yearly expectations of making it out of the first round of the tournament.
