Yeah… It’s strange. I think much of our hoops fans love winning …. in the moment. And dislike losing …. in the moment.

But I think it’s kinda fleeting.

    Self serving response.
But when your school is good at just about everything, fandom gets spread out. We had maybe several thousand show up in Raleigh for the gymnastics meet last week for example. A school like Auburn, who has historically not been very good at almost anything, now finally have something to hold on to so of course it’s a big deal. But the second they aren’t good that passion will leave. It’s a football first school, but they finally have something to be proud of. Same reason MSU embraces baseball, UK basketball, UT women’s basketball, USC baseball when they were good, etc.

I think you may be under estimating the fanbase or the fanbase that was just a little. Anyhow you're definitely right about the expectations though

maybe. But I am basing it on direct and consistent observation over the course of 30 years.

After a loss? Just follow along with a game thread. We and other fan bases want the entire coaching staff fired down 8 in the first half in just about every game…including those we then come back to win by 10. Lol

I’ve sat behind the visitors bench for years. When he was at UT he would always take with us or respond to comments about him being sweaty. I thought he came across as a friendly dude.

Lon left because he didn't think we could be a basketball school, billy proved everyone wrong and did the unthinkable -- you can win at Florida, and you can win big.
We were so spoiled in gator athletics during that time period, that is the problem....

(and if anyone wants to rewatch those championship games....quality ain't so great - but I was at both, unbelievable )

We went to the Tip-Off Classic in Ft. Myers this year and were surprised that Gator fans were clearly out-numbered by both Seton Hall and Ohio State fans. How can that happen in Ft. Myers, Florida???

I was there too with my family. Wasn’t shocked by Ohio State. They have a lot of people in this area and don’t get too many chances to see their team in the area, so everyone came. But the point remains, with the number of UF fans close by that ticket should have been almost impossible to get, but it wasn’t. I understand we haven’t been great, but we should do better.

A few mid major names I really like that haven’t been mentioned:

    Grant McCasland
    Jeff Linder
    Todd Golden

I would love to go after McMahon, but the last hot Murray State coach had to be let go after an 0-18 campaign in year 6 at Iowa State.

Hiring a Mid-Major coach is really just a crapshoot.

I just wish we would make every elite coach say no first. If they don’t want to answer the call then fine, but make them make that decision.

Sadly, yes, the west coast of F-L-A is loaded to the gills with them now, unfortunately.

Joe Dooley Kansas been learning from a good one for years.
Stephens Mich St voted 7th best recruiter works with Mich St big men

Unless we are only looking at head coaches
Wojciechowski- Duke great defender also learned under a great one.
Just no one sticks out but Brad Stevens after that could pick out of 100 names.
It's all a crap shoot just hope you hit a home run or we will be looking again too soon.
Recruiting is so important no matter how good you coach

I believe he is referring to the insatiable Candy Fischer...the rumors were always out there (even well known in Tally according to the late Gray Gator) and apparently Jimbo would invite recruits over to his crib, go out and get some Little Debbies and Circus Peanuts for 30 minutes and when he got home she was smoking a cigarette and the letter of intent signed. Then after that the whole Taylor Jacobs personal (like reallly personal) training sessions came to light.
