You cant count 2020 as not making the tournament. Outside of year one (where he improved on Billy's record) White made it every year until now. I'm just saying this is really the first time he has missed a tourny that he should have made

I meant it as a "be careful what you wish for" argument because I'm worried we won't get someone better. But I'm done with this - believe whatever.

 

People calling for DM's head generally had names in mind but you have a point with Napier. We've all seen what can happen with these coaching searches.
I'm concerned it becomes a Zook type fiasco vice a smooth Napier type hire - especially with the way this appeared to have happened with MW leaving on his own accord unexpectedly. I hope we hear something soon.

 

I get the dislike, but MW has never had a season remotely close to 1-17. He may not get Georgia where they want to go, but White is a clear upgrade. Given Georgia's recent losing history and lack of fan interest I don't see how they could have done much better.
That said, I hope Georgia goes 0-18 in sec play next year .

 

Yes fair point on the 2020 tournament. I still maintain he wasn't a good fit for our organization which resulted in very mediocre performance on the court.

He may be a great coach and awesome guy ( no idea never met him) but I'm happy that he's moving on as it wasn't working. Happens in every profession and you and I can agree to disagree.

Edit to add- him leaving on his own rather than being forced out and dragging us along does speak highly of him in my opinion.

 

I am actually ok with him moving on. As I keep saying. I am agnostic on that issue.
I am excited to see what comes next.

 

Crean's resume before he got to UGA was similar to better than MW's is now. We'll see how MW does there, but I would agree this is a good hire for them.

Mike White will take uga from a state of horrid to mediocre. He will beat UK one time. But lose to Geo State by 25, then upset Duke the next week. 18-13 will be his ceiling. But 11-20 will be his floor.

In 5 years they will replace him after he leads them to .500 winning %.

 

Well, I’m okay if they occasionally beat say a UK or Tenn if it helps us in the sec standings.

I agree. High floor, low ceiling. Consistently inconsistent. Will that be enough for UGA? For at least 5 years and maybe more.

Just realize no one should have to take crap at all. It is called Div 2/3, high school, or whatnot. Like it or not, once you go after a plum job (read getting paid REALLY well) you get the other side of the coin. I did not tell him to go get a UF type job. Now, will his honeymoon remain for a long time at UGa? We shall find out.
