We are in the SEC, not for the nice guy, we have gone that route and have given momentum to rival schools. Tennessee is recruiting great and has replaced Kentucky as the best program in the conference. Recruiting in the south is rough and the SEC one of, if not the best, conference in college basketball top to bottom. CMW ran into coaches who could scheme offense, defense and motivate. With injuries Mike was between a rock and a hard place. I don’t know if we can get an elite coach like a lot of people on here believe we can. With Foley still being around, football being a dominate here, I just think a lot of people think we can go out and get a great coach. The money we paid CMW isn’t enough to attract top talent. Finding a diamond in the rough is even harder.
We will see what SS does, it will show all of us on NBN what he and his fellow athletic friends, alumni and co-workers think about Gator basketball.
I am keeping an open mind that somehow we can find someone who gets recruiting, NIL, can talk to the press and be a personality they like, and can even coach on the floor. That is asking a lot. Do we, Uf have the will to get a good coach and the support staff he needs in this new era? I am hopeful. As for CMW I think was finally addressing some of his faults and was getting better overall, now he is gone to help another an arch rival, why do I feel it is going to bite us in the butt?

I think McMahon would be a good hire.

Enfield signed a 5-year extension with USC. He's not leaving now. Buyout would be huge. USC is a private school, so they don't divulge contracts, but Enfield is likely getting at least $3 million through 2027-28 season. Probably looking at a $10 million or more buyout right now.

While Sean Miller has baggage, it's nowhere near as heavy as Rick Pitino's or Bill Self's. And both these guys are still coaching in the NCAA. Out of the four allegations the Arizona Basketball program was hit with in the NOA, the only player payment mentioned was $500 for an Aussie player (Keanu Pinder) to get family to visit him. And this violation was self reported by the school, and Pinder was suspended 3-games and made to pay back every penny. The other three violations include the money Assistant Coach Book Richardson took and kept for himself, which he's guilty, plus two allegations of academic fraud. Strangely, the two academic fraud issues involve players never ruled ineligible. Rawle Alkins, who played 2 years in Tucson, and Shareef O'Neil, who never enrolled at Arizona. But did enroll at UCLA, before transferring to LSU. The whole DeAndre Ayton $100k scandal doesn't seem to have any legs, and wasn't included in the NCAA NOA to Arizona.

Sean Miller with brother Archie as top assistant would make a formidable coaching team again. And honestly, I don't see Sean Miller getting a long show cause with what is included in the NOA. People with ties to Arizona basketball were guessing 10 games at most. And with Miller not coaching at all this year, he's already technically served a year of a show cause.

    Ok.

You are wrong on both accounts and most posters here would attest to the same. I’ve supported White, but not without critique. And I never denied the flaws others have pointed out.

That said… I haven’t been called “dude” in awhile, so thank you!

With the rumors flying around about Scott Drew, it seems that he might be looking around and his agents are sending inquiries. Perhaps he's looking for more money, but as soon as Baylor's season is over, SS should make a strong push before LSU can. Florida could easily double his salary and what a HR hire that would be. Perhaps he wants to see if Baylor will match or maybe he's ready to move on with the changing landscape of the Big 12 and would want to move to Gainesville over Waco.

Don't compare Mike White's tenure with the football program.
He had plenty of time and gave average very inconsistent results, UGA did us a huge favor.

I think Billy was making $8 in a much cheaper world

Drew makes $3 now, bump him to $7 and make a commitment to basketball.

Do we want to be a true everything school and regain our status amongst the elite in basketball or are we ok being the “we are okay in everything school”?

The Mike Miller talk is weird man.
Guy left college after 2 years as an assistant to be with family and coach his boy's HS team. They are still in HS i believe.

And he has zero experience to lead a program like UF.

These salaries are gross. These expectations are gross. We’ve all lost sight of everything, it seems.

Is there no room left for an alumnus to want a team he can root for, that isn’t a bunch of bloodless mercenary prostitute coaches and players, doing anything it takes to reach dominance?

Out of everything discussed in a new coach, no mention of academics. Of graduating. Let’s quit pretending there is a university associated. Just go get the sleaziest winner, pay $15m a year, but just call them the Gainesville Gators.

I wonder if I will look back at the CMW tenure as the end of my fandom, like @dailydoublecat

agreed - I'd love it if the next coach brings him on as an assistant, but no way do I want Skinny here as the HC to replace White.

Live here long enough, you get tired of both. With the money Billy makes he can go to Alinia, Le Colonial or Topalobampo any time he wants.

I’m intrigued with the idea of bringing Mike Miller back to Gainesville.

this strikes me as unnecessarily melodramatic, France.

no one at all has said they'd like to go get a "bloodless mercenary prostitute" (gotta admit that's a fine turn of phrase, though) coach and players and win at all costs in the sleaziest manner possible while paying $15 million a year.

in fact, people have said they DON'T want to get certain coaches due to the type of baggage some of them have.

and I've never seen a coaching search thread that's focused on academics and player graduation rates in my life, but generally high-profile collegiate basketball hiring processes aren't carried out on internet fan message boards. I'm pretty sure the guys in the UAA offices running things will take that stuff into account with whoever they hire, though.
