Agree Bazza, maybe my feelings are an age thing. I'm almost 71 with 6 bypasses-life is to short to harbor hate and resentment. The results of college sporting events are way down on my list of priorities.
The Georgia job will be about conceiving Atlanta kids to stay in state and go to the dawgs. Right now. That’s a tough sell.
Marginal recruiter, average game coach, sub par results...but a really nice guy. Well paid as most all UF coaches are. Eventually the results out weigh everything else. He is smart enough to see the writing on the wall. Time to move on, good luck Coach White except against us. If the admin is fine with not making the tournament at our current rate, then it should not be hard at all to replace him. If SS gets the word to go big I'm sure he can find someone to shoot for far better results. As a casual observer of the b-ball program, who they go after will tell you their desire for the future. Really I think it was time, and CMW cut a deal that was a win win for both parties.
I will say that he had a constantly rotating staff of assistant coaches plus he had a consistent turnover in recruits. He didn't come close to keeping a recruiting class who by all measures would have been here aka they weren't jumping to the NBA! Yes - I know Tre Mann made the NBA but that was because he got out ASAP. He knew - just like any player that has a chance of sniffing elevated goals does - that being coached by Mike White = regression
It's amazing how the same people who wanted him gone also are holding grudges for where he went. He went to Georgia, but you didn't want him so how is this a betrayal?
Wow, I'm shocked to hear this news! Thanks Mike White for all of your efforts for Florida basketball! At the same time, I am excited about UF hiring a potentially great basketball coach to the Florida basketball program.
White’s undoing in my view is player development or lack of it. Billy was good at that. Most players under Billy improved year to year. White - not so much or even regressed.
Thank you Mike White. And thank you Aka for starting this thread. Mike White represented the University of Florida with class and took us to four (would have been five w/o Covid) NCAA Tourneys during the seven years he coached here. I appreciate that and will pull for you, except when you play us, of course.
