John Beilein has always been the guy I've envied other teams for having. Wonder if he'd be willing to do the college thing again.

Drew is paid ~3.35 million and White is paid ~3 million. Not that much difference.

Yeah, Drew makes similar money to what we were paying White. Not sure what he would want to leave, but could be interesting given the future of the Big12.

Sorry. Misread what you posted. Should have replied to the other poster. But I gave you numbers to back up your argument.

Baylor has lost a national title winning women's basketball coach over money and had to pay out the nose to keep their football coach, we can out spend them.

With this discussion I thought he would be making coach cal money, in which case of course we shouldn’t even think about it. But he’s “only” making ~$3 million and is the 19th highest paid coach. So it doesn’t seem like his current salary should take him off the table for an athletic department with SEC $$$. Unless we are just totally committed to only hiring mid-majors for half what it would take to get this guy.

Billy D I believe was making like $8 million after his championships. We were basically making him the highest paid coach until Cal and U.K. made it ridiculous.

    You can't go wrong.

Drew, Grant and Pitino (the son, of course)

I really like Grant, regardless of what happened at Bama. He's proven he can do it at a high level with Dayton.

Grant’s name wouldn’t even remotely be on any okay if he hadn’t been an assistant coach here.
Good guy, thanks for the memories, but no.

I would be concerned about that if I were him. They are losing Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, which leaves Kansas and OkState(?) as the best remaining Big12 basketball teams. And if the Big10 comes calling to expand to 16, they may lose those two, and I don’t think Baylor is as attractive a target to get poached.

I would bet money it’ll be a mid-major up and comer. The Wyoming coach comes to mind. This is what we are, and we will rinse and repeat mid-major coaches until one is successful.

People forget how little support this basketball program has. Hell, baseball receives more. We’re lacking on facilities and overall support. Add in the fair weather fans and this job is not that appealing. We won’t be getting any kind of “home run” hire as some arrogant fans assume.

Just hope we are not back here in a couple of years wishing we still had Mike White.

You people are dreaming. Florida is not going to land a big name. And Anthony Grant has already coached in the SEC and failed.

Gators are going to end up with a mid major guy.

I would get out the big boy check book and make Jay Wright say 'no'.

While Sampson has a tremendous record as a coach, he is 66 years old and he's got a bad reputation for NCAA rules transgressions.

That's a fair point, but I'd let it slide if he won here.
