Seems fitting for me to post this thread, and so I will. Needless to say, I have tremendous respect for Mike. Though I am bummed it didn’t work out, I understand this decision… and I have made inferences to it being a likely scenario (though I didn’t expect uga). Regardless of one’s opinion of his tenure…, there are some undeniable truths, most notably that Mike was an absolutely fantastic ambassador for our program. While FBI scandals and paid players surrounded his efforts, Mike and his staff worked tirelessly to do things the right way. And they always did. Sadly, those efforts were met with some really tough misfortunes. But still, Mike gracefully guided his squad thru one of the most devastating scenes in our program history. His kids always played hard, and there was nary a word of off court issues. Though many were frustrated by a recent plateau - I personally think Mike admirably stepped into some tremendously large shoes…. and led us to some fantastic wins and memories. And so, thank you Coach White. I wish you all the best in your career and will root for your success. Brent
Following a legend is a difficult task. He did it admirably and he certainly represented UF well. As to wishing him well, not sure I can do that now
I don’t think he’s a great or even good coach, but he’s a good guy. I was planning on rooting for him. But he is going to UGA. I have he fails and fails hard
I was planning to give him my full support in his next endeavor. Unfortunately now I cannot. I would have supported him at Ole Miss or even LSU. No chance I can pull for a coach of georgia (in basketball terms, I still think he's a good guy).
I'm glad he's going to UGA. Perfect place for him to be marginal and have a job forever. However I echo everything aka said. He's by far my favorite failed coach at UF ever.
He was getting paid 3 million a year, which is what a top 25 coach is paid. He hasn’t delivered results commiserate to his pay rate in the past 5 years. The heat he was getting from the fan base is part of the deal.
Georgia can have him; if he couldn't succeed at UF, he won't succeed with the leghumpers. But any Florida head coach that leaves UF for UGA will get nothing but scorn from me.
I was a big supporter of CMW for the first 4 years or so, but behind the scenes I kept hearing the same excuses all the time, didnt have his players, didnt have the right assistant coaches in place, too many injuries, kids not living up to billing. Also saying we are going to play one way and then going right back to the same style he was comfortable with. It had grown old and tiresome for boosters for sure. He was not fired, but he saw the writing on the wall and knew things were just not going to end well eventually here. I hope he does decently at UGA, again he is not a bad guy. He just is who he is as a coach, he will be better for UGA for Crean. I just hope his 2 top recruits do not follow him to UGA. I would love for us to go after the guys from Murray State and Chattanooga and some others and see who is the best fit.
