Wow… we really did get screwed. Being at the game, I was unable to see replays. Putting aside a few really bad calls….. the overruling was bizarre, conspiracy level stuff. I watched the replay. Pat Adams did NOT raise his arm to signal a foul. As such- he can not come into discuss a call he DID NOT make, much less switch the call. It was an entirely bizarre sequence and total bullshit. I’ve tweeted at the SEC a few times. I’d love an explanation.
While the way they made the call was bullshit in terms of the mechanics of officiating, I do believe in the end it was the “correct” call. So it didn’t really piss me off once I saw the replay.
No he didn't. That's why I wrote the only ref that could have called a foul was the farthest away and out of the frame but without any angle to see any foul. Then you corrected me and said it was Adams on the baseline. Adams just signaled a dead ball.
I think it was probably a foul, but a case could be made for a no-call, as it was two players chasing a live ball. But the overriding point is that many missed or questionable calls happen during a game…. And are part of the game. The “mechanics”, as you mentioned, are not.
It’s the rule. No foul was called. Fouls are not reviewable. Now, had Adams made a call different than the official who called it oob… then a discussion. But only one official made a call. For Adams to come over and argue for a foul, the obvious question becomes… “well, why then didn’t you call one?”.
ET made a good point to me… charge/block fouls are reviewable to check if in restricted area. But in virtually every other scenario… the call or non-call isn’t up for review or discussion. Adam’s didn’t make a call. He can’t change his mind after the fact. And it wasn’t as if a late whistle. There was no whistle, and then a discussion…. and several minutes later, Adams signals foul. That is absurd.
Ok… but several minutes after the play and no-call. The foul was called after a discussion. And it wasn’t a discussion of conflicting calls. No foul call was made… until one was. And I still have no idea what they went to the monitor for. The whole thing was bizarre and classic Pat Adams.
wasn't at the game so didnt hear the actual discussion of Adams arguing for a foul to be called. And i'm pretty sure the broadcast didnt pick up the conversation either so will just have to take your word for it.
The tv showed the closest official call oob/Florida possession. It also showed neither of the other two officials raise an arm to signal a foul. It then showed Pat Adams run over and initiate a conversation w the official who made the oob call. Though we are not privy to the details…. the discussion ended with Pat Adams signaling a foul that initially had not been whistled. The broadcast also showed White going ballistic at Adams.
They did… but I am not sure why. they huddled for a few minutes, with that meeting culminating w Adams signaling a foul. They then went to the monitor.
Ok, That is how I remember it, they made the foul call before they went to the monitor. I was thinking you were saying they went to the monitor and then called the foul, that's why I was confused.
