That is what amazes me about my grandmothers generation she was born in 1902 and died in 2000. Basically she went from horse and buggy days to early laptop & cellphone days in her lifetime. Living in rural north Florida I doubt she saw many automobiles when she was a little girl, in her teens she rode on Flaglers railroad. Then in her 60s she witnessed man walking on the moon. What a lifetime.

Meanwhile this government turns a blind eye to the damage being done by rising inflation. It's almost as if they want it. I've yet to be convinced that we can't do a darn thing. Remove stifling regulations, continue to build the pipeline, remove all of the red tape and environmental issues that stops new drilling. I sincerely believe it's not a matter of "can't" but "won't." Biden has made it perfectly clear that he will end fossil fuels. I am convinced he has made it difficult to increase production and has resorted to blame game, it's Russia Russia Russia.
Does Biden care? Let's see what happens in the next several months as prices go from $4 gas to $5 or $6.

Is this subject not getting enough attention in the general inflation thread or the other one you have on it? If you start a thread on EVs, maybe you should use it to talk about EVs

EV's as has been thoughtfully mentioned here won't be anywhere fully functional for many years down the road. It's going to take a whole lot of changing over and figuring out things to mass produce along with charging stations. So, in the meantime we let people suffer. G8, we differ and I do respect your posts, but it's clear that your financial circumstances is no where near those who live paycheck to paycheck and will drown with these inflationary prices. I live among these people. It adds stress upon stress as to how to make ends meet. So yeah, this matters.

The only thing holding ev back is batteries. The amount of research being done is astounding. Even some in the US ;)
It will be very interesting to watch over the next couple years.
The house aspect gets more interesting as the big players are working hard to limit the connections and payback rates on home systems. As they pay of politicians, I mean fundraisers, who knows what the landscape will look like.
My golf cart goes too fast, I need better brakes and a smoother pasture.

Look, I love my car. Think it’s a great product, but the idea that EVs are outside the average price range, when a Nissan Leaf starts at $27,500 isn’t really the case. I’ve never had one but their owners seem to like them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

G8, believe it or not I like ya even though we differ. Actually I do care for all posters even though I differ, I'm not into hating. Here's the thing, $27,500 may not seem a lot to you, but there are people, lots of people who cannot afford a $10,000 vehicle. Heck, they are struggling to pay rent, rent mind you, groceries, utilities, medicines, clothes and so on. This inflation that appears to have no end is creating a kind of misery most on this board have never experienced.

I’m aware of that. My point is that there is an entry point into the market for many middle class people. And that is the new price. There are used vehicles out there as well at lower prices. The idea that EVs are some fancy shamncy product simply isn’t the case. And when gas prices increase, the ROI of EVs increase as well.

EV’s have gone from absurdity to common in my time alone on these boards.

Vehicle market exists as all do, to make money.

Elon moved the needle, but I sincerely hope not many here buy his shtick hook to sinker.

He promised vehicles for the masses. That was a lie. As salesmen do. You see that once he had a foot planted, he of course, as planned, pivoted to the six figure versions. My own BIL has one. It dances, with the flying doors and classical music.

Elon could make legit $25000 Teslas today. But why would he? To save a planet he’ll no longer inhabit? To save your kids? Ha, stop it.

But he did indeed show it’s possible. His bruh left to start Lucid. Even fancier Teslas.

Cadillac and Mercedes make EV marvels now. Everyone does. They are not just viable, they are legit. Drive a Tesla and try to downplay the badass with a straight face. They wipe ass with anyone at the red light.

But they aren’t here to cater to coupon cutters. I’m not even mad about it. Just as I say McDonald’s doesn’t exist to give your lazy ass kid PlayStation Live money, car companies don’t exist to save the world.

But EV’s are already superior in every way except infrastructure. I traded a hillbilly land yacht Silverado for a Cruze. Demo (4600 miles), $17000 flat (SiriusXM lifetime was my only holdout) December 2018, when gas was practically free and SUV’s were raging. I get ~43 MPG in NOVA. I realized EV wasn’t interested in me so I made sure to minimize my slavery to oil.

But the tech creep has happened faster than I would have predicted. There are two chargers at my school. I could pull off the charging now even leasing a condo. A decade ago that was a ridiculous thought.

Biden clearly is no EV lover. No pyramid pol is, that’s not how you go big.

It will happen despite the refusal to embrace it. EV haters are whining more than ever, that is what happens at The End.

Sub $10,000? So you’re in the realm of cheap used cars, not new. So apples to apples you could buy a used Leaf up until a year ago for 6-8k. They’re more like $11k now. This isn’t an EV car pricing problem but one of severe income disparity.

Your Elon/Tesla comments are off base. Elon has said for more than a decade now that he intended to start with the premium quality vehicles and work his way down so the first adopters are paying the premium for the research development, low production quantities etc. with each new vehicle he is reducing the price and will eventually get to a vehicle in the $20,000s. But as of now they’re selling more than they’re producing so there will not be a super cheap Tesla EV until they get past that production curve. It is a business after all.

Also, rented a Prius in Cali (when in Rome!) Lethargic compared to other options, but it did indeed run forever, room galore, and still had enough to keep me alive on the freeways.

I found it a relic compared to other EV’s, but most certainly a legit vehicle.

And I’ll admit that the new Silverado EV has me almost U-turning my “never again” stance.

Change, in this case will be good eventually. Eventually being the key word. As others have noted, their needs to be a transition. Quite frankly, there is no EV available for under $60 that I would even consider driving. Conversely, there are many cars under even $45K that I could drive. Of course, this was before the CoVid fearers trashed the economy.

The point here being that ICE vehicles will be on the road in very large numbers for at least another 20 years. It will also take probably that same time frame to fully transition infrastructure to support an all EV fleet. It was way too early for Biden and the environmental looks to start killing oil.

This is their problem and they need to own it.

Well we agree then, since both I and Elon are saying that $25K ain’t happening. You can choose to believe that this was accidental if you want, but I do not.

He has even moved the goalposts, saying “you’re asking the wrong question” since he says what’s important is autonomous driving, NOW. I guess that just popped up yesterday. Honest mistake!

I mean what do they need, to be the most valuable car company on Earth or something? Although last year they tumbled all the way back to a $32B or so valuation.

But what a coincidence! Once the plan seemed to be in place, brand new focus!

Again, to reiterate, I’m no Elon hater. But I also don’t drink the Kool-Aid by the gallon. His $500M loan was largely based on this “car for the masses” concept. And to his credit, they repaid that loan in full, early. And I also believe that loan was worth it, as Tesla has indeed changed the game in a monumental way.

Still, he was FOS in 2010 and remains that way in many ways today. There’s no harm in calling someone out for their bad stuff even as they do other good stuff.

I suspect that with gas in excess of $4.00 a gallon and approaching or soon to exceed $5.00 a gallon a lot of car owners/purchasers who at one time wouldn't even consider purchasing an EV are seriously considering one now.
