Now see… this is a criticism I can get jiggy wit. Let the record show that I agree with this. People falsely suggest that I don’t criticize Coach White at all, because I am a supporter, but this is a fair position to take. We should be ranked more often than not. In this respect, Coach has not met our expectations. I believe he will change that, but I certainly think that fans are correct to demand this.

Someone used the term "agnostic" when describing their feelings for coach White. I think thats pretty well said.

I really like the guy and hate the slander he gets in some circles.
I also liked Dan Mullen so theres that

But im stoked to see what Billy does with recruiting and rebuilding the football brand and would be excited for a new direction in hoops.

All while being 100% ok if SS feels there isn't a better option and gives Mike a bit more runway.

I definitely shifted from squarely pro MW to "agnostic" this season, but am Ok with whatever happens.

I just hate the way people talk about him sometimes. The dude ain't McElwain or Muschamp.

Not trying to make this a football thread...People slander McElwain. Billy Napier coached under McElwain at Colorado State. McElwain was promised $$$ for facilities and player experience. McElwain then made a stink about it with Administration and Boosters in 3rd year and I believe bailed on Florida. That is why when Napier showed up... he got all what McElwain wanted for the program.. written in his contract.

    McElwain as a coach:
    1. 2 SEC East 1st place finishes and SEC championship game appearances
    2. In two years as UF coach recruited 27 players that went on to play in NFL
    3. (Since) Central Michigan as head coach finished 1st each of the years he has been there(minus shortened COVID year)

    Back to basketball!!!! LOL!

I haven’t noticed any slander regarding White. He’s not a good coach. No one had questioned his character. Slander is lying about a person to damage his reputation.

I think in general, what's driving that perception is the belief that UF underachieved while UM overachieved. Stats suggest UM is not better, but watching a JL team is far more pleasing.

Doesn't feel like, we have lost the momentum and regressed to mid level SEC, let alone making runs at titles.

If he were given another D 1 offer anywhere, he would leave. He just does not have that on the table right now because he has done absolutely nothing to warrant it. Even his father at Duke could not justify offering him an assistant coaching position at Duke. That is how pedestrian his brand is right now. We have 7 players leaving the program (not counting transfers) and 3 commits. What does that tell you about his popularity among HS recruits? A once-storied program with 4 scholarship slots open and he cannot even get 3 stars to show interest.

Get a coach that gets the blue blood coaches bent...then you know you have a good coach. Remember when Billy started out Roy Williams was going after him claiming he was a cheater, he knew he was a threat to the blue bloods. When Cal started at UMass...John Chaney went crazy and wanted to fight him...he knew Cal was a threat. Cal, Pearl, Wade all disliked...nobody seems to dislike Mike White or have any issues with him...that should tell you that you have the wrong coach.

People don’t like them because they cheat. Pearl seems likable. Wade on the other hand…

You are being kind! We are in the bottom half of the SEC right now UK, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M, and Arkansas, are all considered more respectable basketball programs right now with better coaches. We got blown out- blown out by 1-9 Ole Miss team, and obliterated by UK. Many of the other teams we did beat we had to come from behind to win.

This is a horribly run program, with a horrible coach, and nothing is going to change until the Athletic Department does what it did to the football program- put its foot down.

His inability to get them motivated for a game as important as the A&M game, yesterday, speaks volumes about him as a coach, and hearing players talk about being lackadaisical in the first half of the most important game they had left just confirms it. How people can continue defending him for mediocrity is unbelievable. UF isn't a participation trophy school.

Thanks for sharing. I think this clearly shows how White is so slow to make the correct lineup changes not just in game but over the course of the season.

I mean yesterday it made no sense that Jones played 27 minutes, Appleby played 20 while Lane only played 22. There really isn't a nice way to say how poorly Appleby played yesterday so I'll leave it at that and Jones was getting beat off the dribble badly and if he's not hitting shots, he simply needs to be on the bench. Here are their stats from yesterday.

    Appleby: 20 minutes, 0-4 fg's, 0-3 3pt, 0 pts, 3 ast, 4 rbs, 0 stl and 3 TO's.

    Jones: 27 minutes, 1-6 fg's, 0-4 3pt, 2 pts, 2 ast, 3 rbs, 0 stl and 1 TO.

    Lane: 22 minutes, 6-8 fg's, 1-1 3pt, 16 pts, 9 rbs, 1 stl, 1 blk and 0 TO's.

I can only imagine what their +/- was because that would show probably an even bigger disparity. It should have been clear as day that Appleby nor Jones had it going on yesterday. If you needed minutes, I would have given it to Kennedy over either of those guys.

Than the sideline reporter was talking about people complaining about minutes. That's crazy that this is happening in the SECt.

The other thing is how could White think that he had a true pg on this team going into the season. He doesn't really seem to have a good idea on how to actually construct a roster. I mean last year, Appleby was stripped of pg duties down the stretch. McKissic and Jones were both 2's, you let your backup pg transfer and you recruited none. How in the world can SS have any confidence that White has a good plan for the future since this was his team in year 7. If he does come back, I'd love to hear this plan for next year.

Every year it's fixing the roster based on perceived weaknesses from that season and I'm sure that's what he'd be selling, but the truth is this season was the 3rd consecutive season he's changed how he went about building the team. If White is back, imo it shows how SS really feels about Florida Basketball. Saying that there isn't a better coach out there is just a cop out imo.

They are going to be an at large bid, we aren't. They won the games they needed to and we didn't. That to me says they are a better team.

I'm not going to sit here and say "we're better because some computer says we are by 5 or 6 spots and we have a tougher schedule". I'm also not going to play the transitive property game, that doesn't mean we'd match up well against them. Lastly, our Q3/Q4 loss is much worse than their three -- and I'd say they have more good wins than we do (Wake x2, UNC, Duke, VTech vs Auburn and OSU).

Overall a very disappointing season. I hope that soon Miami and FSU won't be able to hold our jocks in hoops again.

I agree that they are better. Our marquee win was equaled by them beating Auburn also, plus they have many more good wins on top of that one. They also didn't get blown out by Texas Southern at home.

You think if we had beaten ole miss we are making the dance? 10-8 vs 9-9 looks alot better, and would have put us 6th in the league.

What is a shame is how inconsistant we played from game to game and half to half, and rarely ever being able to put together a complete game.
But what is lost in all this, is how brutal the SEC really was this season -- Auburn, Kentucky, Tenn, and Arkansas are all legit teams and when you have to play Kentucky and Auburn twice, you can't afford to slip up and lose to the bottom of the conference like we did against Ole Miss.

    good post.

during the last five seasons, the Gators have been ranked 17 of 90 total weeks, or .188 percent of the time and have finished the season ranked once (23rd in 17-18).

17-18 was by far our best season for rankings out of the last five - we started the year ranked preseason #8 and were ranked in 9 of 18 weeks, although we were unranked for four of the last five before finishing #23.

over the last four years, we've been ranked:
    - 2018-19: 0 of 19 weeks, finishing unranked
    - 2019-20: 3 of 19 weeks, finishing unranked (after starting preseason #6)
    - 2020-21: 1 of 16 weeks, finishing unranked
    - 2021-22: 4 of 18 weeks, finishing unranked

this - along with our middle of the pack SEC finishes, mediocre records, and weak NCAA seeds over the past five years - is one of the things that has caused me to lose faith in White as the long-term answer for UF hoops. I like the guy but he's just not getting it done imo.
