Just finishing ranked would be a big step up.

This is a very fair point and I will say if SS keeps White, I almost want to let a lot of these transfers go and build with Reneau, Reed, Aberdeen, Reeves, Jitobah, Gatkek, Felder and Lane. He would have to find a true pg and either get Jones to come back or find a shooter from the portal, but that's what the portal should be used for, getting 1 or 2 guys to add to your nucleus you're building from recruiting. If this was to happen, you'd almost have to let White have 2 more years (unless they have a horrible year next season) and by year 2 have a consistent top 25 team or that's it. Something we haven't really seen since year 3.

The biggest thing I worry about in this scenario is does White know how to best work with a team like this. White seems to fall in love with a particular lineup and is very slow to let anyone else break into the line-up. He also seems to favor a 3 guard line-up, play upper classmen, but if the above is your guys, that would not best suit this particular team. I'm not convinced that he would know what to do and results would be any different. In addition, a lot of the fanbase wants White gone so can you imagine the noise if next year doesn't go so well.

Also, the SEC is continuing to get better and more and more programs seem to be moving ahead. Now Georgia is about to get a new coach so its possible it gets even tougher (not sure about Georgia but you never know). This just seems like a crucial offseason and one way or another the program needs to start progressing instead of the typical offseason of question marks.

I admire the posters that feel a loyalty to the program/team regardless of performance. I am guessing that most are alumni. It’s good for the kids to have good people like you that show up regardless win, lose or draw. For others though, the ‘game’ is a source of entertainment. And when it gets unbearable to watch, un entertaining, then it’s only natural to become dissatisfied. UF is a school located in a great weather/talent location. There should be utterly no reason, NONE, that it cannot be a consistent top 25 program in one single sport. Excuses are for losers. UF is also a school that should not be a ‘training ground’ for a Coach to develop into a Coach. No reason why quality Coaches cannot be hired from the get go. MW has had plenty of time to show what he ‘could be’ and ‘is’. His Coaching produces NO consistent offensive scheme/pattern, other than inconsistency. Nor does/has he recruited sufficiently to build a scheme. Granting another year, after another year merely because we dislike transition and hope things will change is to close to the definition of insanity. It’s time for change. Make UF basketball pleasurable to watch again!

Someone used a comment along the lines of ‘lost classes’ with regard to recruiting classes. Well, the Coach and team just had a season that was heavily reliant upon the ‘transfer class’ that he just brought in, and we see the results. DONT think you will see a lot of highly successful team/seasons built on classes that are primarily transfers. There may be outliers but Coaches need to be able to recruit high level high school players. The numbers of top ranked prospects in this state compared to how many we are getting is deeply troublesome. We need a Coach that can take advantage of NIL and get in there to compete to get our share of these kids to UF.,

This coach had a top 10 class and the #1 transfer and could only get us to the 5th seed in our conference. I’m not sure great recruiting classes would change much.

I haven't read these 266 posts but it appears this has turned into a regular CMW thread.

Can someone just give me a y/n on whether there's credible Intel that MW may leave?

At this point, all we can do is hope. Posters are saying possibly going to Ole Miss, I’m good with that if that is what he wants. I’m good with him going anywhere.

If I had to guess, it would be that Mike White will be here next year.

  10. Always fascinating to hear how great the recruiting is then compare it to a team like Tennessee who's gotten consistent stuff from young guys/veterans the last few years and they've actually developed kids.

The season started so promising with our "suffocating defense" that everyone was talking about. We beat FSWho and broke the string of losses to them. Then we lose to teams we had no business losing to. The disappointment is understandable. I feel for the players, but this story line sounds too familiar, ala Mullen. I guess we'll just see how it plays out.

This thread is the same as this season: the Hokie Pokie dance.

I would just be happy if we could do something beside drive into the paint and pick up our dribble and start pivoting around trying to find someone to pass the ball to. It's like hey I got here, but I can't finish, I can't pass, and if I don't pick up my dribble the ball will get stolen because I have no handle. No one can hit a floater.

Almost everyone on that team was a Donovan recruit a year matured. All you are pointing out is how great Donovan was that his positive influence could survive his departure, and under a coach who has demonstrated an acute inability to win on the big stage.

You know to think about it, to go 19-13 with the talent we had in 2020 is damn near criminal. If we want to be a middlin' SEC team then keep White because he runs a clean program at least and I will adjust my hopes.

There is always an excuse. Either Nembhard isn't a fit because he slows the tempo, or so and so is injured, or so and so is in a shooting funk. We are like a high maintenance woman who has to have everything perfect before we can be functional.

    What are you saying?

I was responding to a poster saying that Donovan was lucky in assembling the back to back roster, I responded that he knew how to build championship teams.

The only transfer that is not a senior is Felder. We are losing six transfers and one commit from HS as seniors (Johnson). I agree with you, that for the first time White has a returning foundation that he built Jitoboh his recruit, Reeves his recruit, Lane his recruit, Gatkek (quasi transfer from community college but basically his recruit since he did not play Div 1 anywhere else, Kennedy his recruit, and Felder a transfer.

Reeves and Lane were amazing today, and set the stage for a "no excuse" year next year. We already know what Jitoboh can do. He is a double-double man every night if he stays out of foul trouble. We have Reneau, Reed, and Aberdeen who all appear to be SEC-ready contributors, and seeing young players leading the way in Reeves and Lane, will show them that there is no reason why they can't compete immediately.

Felder has demonstrated that he can compete in the SEC, and we have room for 4 transfers one of which must be another center.

And in turns out that FSU just wasn’t any good this year so that win doesn’t look so great in retrospect.
