Noise from Mike White’s camp

Florida might not move on from Mike White, but a lot of Gator fans will move on. Expect half empty arenas and significantly reduced interest in the team.

Not if we have a good team, if we play well they will come.

If we have a good team they will come. If not they won't it's simple. I think we will have a good team, but thought the same this year.

 

Guess we know what SS really feels about the basketball team. Have to hope the incoming class is the real deal and White actually plays them. Probably means White gets 2 more years, which most likely means more of the same. Maybe having a taller team will mean more success (Jitobah, Gatkek, Reneau and Reed), but team's going nowhere without a true pg and there is currently no one on the roster that is one. Aberdeen can play the point but he is probably better off being the backup pg.

I am going to "cheat" a bit from work tomorrow and hope to catch at least part of the game.

Eh, though I won't be thrilled about it I will still watch and support the team.

 

I love the size coming in but man oh man it would be nice if Aberdeen can play the point, no disrespect to Apple but we sure could use more consistency at that position.

 

SS is letting the program die on the vine one small failure at a time. It’s a shame to watch and isn’t going to get better, so SS is basically saying this is the best we can do, which the vast majority of fans would disagree with.
If MW moves on then credit to him for seeing what his boss can’t or won’t. Now we have to almost hope for Kermit Davis to leave.

 

Yes the source was Bullis and he spoke confidently that White would not be coaching at Florida next season per his source within the program. Bullis never said he would be fired, only that our administration wasn’t pleased. That could mean that they are strongly suggesting that he look for another job to prevent them from having to fire him, I don’t know and really don’t care as long as White leaves. But again, Bullis didn’t give the details of how it will come about but that White would not be here next season. I believe him, as he has always been credible with everything he’s ever told me, can’t speak for anything he may have told anyone else.
As for you saying that definitely that Florida won’t be moving on from White, they might not straight out fire him but don’t think for a second that this means they want him to stay. There are many ways that a person can leave a job that isn’t totally their choice. But in any case, as long as he’s gone I will be happy no matter how it happens.

 

Though there are frustrations with the season, any inference that SS or UAA wants or is hinting Mike toward the door… is entirely inaccurate.

 

That’s not what Bullis has said. He claimed to have a reliable insider within the administration.

 

But someone said to someone else to someone else. What could be wrong?

 

I guess we will see soon enough if he goes elsewhere as this season is coming to a disappointing end pretty quickly. Some have a hard time accepting that White hasn’t gotten the job done and want to keep him for years to come, hoping that someday he will grow into a good coach. I say 7 years is plenty of time to see what he can do and he hasn’t shown that he can achieve a sustained level of success beyond being a bubble team that squeaks into the dance and then gets bounced before you can blink. Gators deserve a better coach and most fans want more than finishing middle of the conference and being on the bubble. We may never get another Donovan but improving on what we have will be easy.

 

If his insider is saying differently, he should probably find a new insider.

 

I actually like Bullis, but he is emotionally driven in how he processes info. So who knows what he heard and what he took it as.

 

Like I said, we will see soon enough. If White stays, Bullis was wrong. But if White leaves for any reason, then his source was correct. I know which one I’m hoping for.

Here is what I KNOW. UF and admin will not fire Mike White. However, they will also not fight tooth and nail to keep him. What I mean is, he could leave for another job and UF wouldn’t keep him from that. Happy Wednesday!

 

It is possible White leaves. And part of me hopes he does so. I think he has had a horribly snake-bitter tenure. And for reasons i can’t explain, he hasn’t been able to assemble a team or style that reflects what was his identity. I also think the steering currents of the fan base have become quite strong. And I agree… 7 years is plenty of time- so if either party came to conclusion it wasn’t working, no one could argue lack of time/effort.
I would push back on the idea “Florida deserves better”, but that is a tired discussion.
Anyway- as you said, we will see how it plays out. For now… I will continue to root for the team. I’ll be in Tampa tomorrow… front and center.

 

The portion of your post I argued and that which is incorrect is any inference that the uaa wants White to leave or is hinting him toward the door.
It is possible White makes his own decision.

 

I forgot that he left last season, I admit it. I don’t keep tabs on all the assistants on staff. But to dismiss what Bullis said as conjecture is wishful thinking on your part as I’ve never known him to state something so confidently and it not be truthful.
