There were some occasional wrinkles. I think that they went 1-3-1 once in a while. It was just an extremely difficult defense to deal with, especially considering that you generally faced it only when playing against Syracuse.

He added a 1–1-3 recently, but he does pretty much always play that 2-3.

Not sure about that, Missy canned Andy Kennedy and his record was quite similar to White's.

    Regarding AG -

are there any examples of coaches who have done well mid major, ate shit at the P5 level, then went back to the mids, did well again and got another p5 job and succeeded?

Thats my main hesitation with him, even though he'd be a great culture fit.

SS has to make a move or there will be few other than just the die hard round ball fans paying even remote attention to the program.

the thing is, beyond the wins and losses, for most of his tenure it hasn’t even been a fun style of play to watch, in fact it’s been downright painful. You at least have to have one of the two to have any interest at a football first school. Lon had a boring style but he made a final 4, Billy had both, MW has neither.
One of the easiest stats in the BD era to track was shots plus FTs. If we had more than the opponent we almost always won, because we had an efficient (and fun) offense. We had a game this year or last, I want to say we got 15 more shots up than our opponent and still lost. That’s just brutal basketball to try and be emotionally invested in. And it’s not a one off really.

Sounded right, so I looked up Kennedy's record and MW has a much better record. In 12 yrs Kennedy only made 2 NCAAs and got fired off a 4-10 sec record. He was Mr NIT.

As a former Rebel, I could easily see MW in that job and think he would easily be an improvement over Kermit Davis who has 1 NCAA appearance in his 4 years, losing record this year Haven't heard talk of Davis getting fired tho, ole miss has had a ton of injuries this yr and they don't seem to care a lot about basketball anyway.

It's not easy to win at Ole Miss.

It's not all that easy to win anywhere, especially if ur not buying players.

I would add that's why Kennedy got 12 yrs at ole miss and haven't heard much on Kermit even tho he's had a terrible season in his 4 th yr. It's baseball season in Oxford.

He'd be my pick as well and I think he's ready to come back to a power conference. It's almost perfect that he had his stint at Bama, went to Dayton and became a better coach. Plus, he's from Miami and would absolutely kill it in recruiting. With the amount of talent from IMG and Montverde to name a few, there is no reason Florida shouldn't have yearly top 10 classes with the right coach. In the 21 class, there were 10 guys from Florida in the top 50 overall and Florida got none of them and in the 22 class there are 11 guys in the top 50 in which Florida does have 1 in Reneau.

Just last year at Dayton, Grant had a top 25 recruiting class in the nation, with 6'10 DaRon Holmes #10 PF in the nation and top 50 overall from Montverde and 6'0 pg Malachi Smith from the Bronx, NYC. Holmes as a true freshman is averaging 11.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.3 bpg and a 64.2 fg% and Smith 9.2 ppg, 5.4 apg, 4.2 rpg & 1.8 spg. Talk about bringing in guys and developing them right away. Obi Toppin was in his first recruiting class, unranked to top 10 pick in the NBA draft.

He better be on SS's radar and I hope he's the first call he makes. If anyone can keep the current Florida class together it would be Grant, at least Reneau and Aberdeen and hopefully bring Holmes and Smith with him. Pair them with some or all of Reeves, Jitobah, Lane, Felder and Gatkek and that would be a great nucleus to build off of and possibly be a good team right away. To me it just makes too much sense and should be the easy pick before Georgia or some other power 5 conference steals him.

It would not be the worse idea. I just feel that any play such as this, or any decent upcoming coach, is being vetted right now. I can't fathom Stricklin would let Mike go without a really good idea who is Plan A or Plan B.

I wouldn't be upset if Anthony Grant gets brought back, but he doesn't really move the needle much for me either. Dayton's been good but not spectacular under his watch - he had a great season there a couple years ago but they haven't really done anything special the rest of the time.

he knows the program at UF and wouldn't be a bad hire, I just don't think we should automatically be looking at him as the number one candidate if White leaves.

Style of play matters at UF. Grant is not fun to watch, which has been part of White's problem.

I'm intrigued w/ AG, but remember well his years at Bama. And they were middling at best.
Honest question- why would he do better at UF than at Bama?
Was something holding him back at Bama?

Some argue that Mike white is learning and improved and that's the hope in keeping him. I have the same concern you bring up about Grant at Bama but one could argue he has evolved and improved as evidenced by his most recent results. I don't know enough about his stints at each stop to comment on any growth/changes/ etc to testify to this but I'm just making an observation.

Likely Bullis, who I speak with frequently.
His info on this is speculation.
I can tell you definitively that Florida will not be moving on from Mike White this off season. The opposite, however, is a possibility.

I watched part of Dayton’s win over Davidson the other day, and it looked like Billy’s old Florida offense out there.
