I have seen him play, I like him. he shoots plenty for a PG, so expect some points but he shoots like Hill from outside. Also he does not get a ton of asst as he is a scorer PG. How do you know he's not starting at Fla this year you don't. You like him that's great but to say we are better if he was starting, you must know the lotto numbers, send them to me please. He's good I Agree but we need plenty more than Glover. Hey I had Cheese in NBA when he signed with fla did you? Also never a fan of Hill. Had Finny- Smith in NBA so I get some right. But also had P. Young in NBA so I get some wrong also. We all do.
On one hand you gloss over the fact that no other major program wanted him. At all. And you say that was a whiff and it happens all the time. On the other hand you criticize the only guy who gave him a shot and use that as evidence of his lack of coaching ability. Maybe Glover wanted to transfer to a smaller school, ever think of that possibility? Again, it’s called confirmation bias, you look for and only see things that confirm your prior opinion.
If Glover is that great then isn't it a credit to CMW that he recognized that greatness when no other P6 coach did. I mean- part of coaching is talent evaluation so I find that amazing that our coach is so much greater than all other p6 coaches in spotting this diamond in the rough.
Samford did it. They beat Furman by 8 points, which was a 40 point turnaround from their 32 point loss to Furman earlier in the season. Samford was led by 22 points and 6 assists and only 1 turnover from the kid who would be the 4th string point guard at UF this season behind Appleby, McKissic and Jones. UF must have a helluva team. Samford is now 20-9 for the season and 10-7 in the conference after starting off 1-6 in the conference. Samford is now guaranteed its 1st winning season ever in the Southern Conference. It has been in the conference for 14 years.
Excellent press conference with Glover and Coach Bucky McMillin. I would take this guy as the Gator coach right now.
Watch these highlights from last night’s Samford game, and please tell me again why the Gator point guards are better than Glover. I know that there’s a good explanation, but I am forgetting what it is.
Getting so old we know that you love Glover, we got that. Plus he would be behind Kennedy and Lane also.
What’s old are your insane posts. By the way, no one ever read a word from you about Chiozza being a future pro or some of your other apparently phony statements.
You have to compare him to last year, this is a different year. Maybe he starts this year even you don't know the answer to that. He left so we will never know.
H Hard to since I was not on this. I don't say anything about phony statements when you say things. I know what I said I don't lie sir. It's a message board we all have opinions. Yours or mine are not always right. Best I stay off your posts I enjoy coming here don't need your crap it's suppose to be fun and talk about our Gators.
What do you call saying that he would be behind Lane and Kennedy? You’re either too lazy to watch a 2 minute video or you’re trying to jerk me around.
Had to respond of course I was joking they are not even PGs. Ok now I will stay off. Don't have to respond I get it.
Samford eked out a 2-point win over UNC Greensboro last night. Glover had 19 points and 7 assists. They play Furman at 6:30 pm today in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament. The game is on ESPNU.
Just saw the replay of the Furman game (first Samford/Glover game watched this season). I thought he was a tough out due to his size against some pretty limited competition. You can see his strength. His quickness was there sometimes, especially coming down the end of the game when they isolated him. But other times what I saw was a short guy who had no business being inside and on quite a few times he jumped up and was bailed out by passing it to a guy after the fact. That is what got him in trouble here. I do think he relished the amount of minutes he got and it allowed him to do plenty of shooting/creating. I can't ever see a Mike White team giving him that amount. And I also saw that he wasn't a "bug" on defense, just playing straight up and getting his hands in there on occasion. I have to say I am glad he found a home he could feel good in. I do not see where he would have been a much better PG for Mike this season. Appleby is taller, a bit more "buggy" on defense and may score as many points on any given night. And I may be biased but I think Appleby shooting FTs coming down the stretch is a bit more reassuring. And so I would say it worked out for both teams. BTW, I think McMillan looks "right-sized" for a program like Samford. Nothing wrong with that. I prefer another coaching candidate to replace Mike...whenever that happens.
Thanks for the post, although I am going to disagree with you on a few things or supplement them. Some of my disagreement likely is because I have been following Samford for its entire season and have watched all of its games since I subscribed to ESPN+. First of all, Furman is a tough out. Furman vs Florida on a neutral court would be a game that could go either way. Furman is better than the ORU team that knocked off Florida last year's NCAA tournament. It is 74th in the Pomeroy rankings. In comparison, Vandy is 79, Maryland is 83, FSU is 101, Ole Miss is 105 and Missouri is 143. Also, Furman and Samford have played 3 times this season. In the first game, which was at Furman, Glover was out with an injury or illness and Furman beat Samford by 32 points and led by 30 at the half. In the second game, which was at Samford, Samford won by 8 with Glover leading the way with 22 points and 6 assists. Last night's game was in Asheville, and Furman won by 3 points in a game that went down to the final seconds. With Samford down by one and about 20 seconds to go, Glover drove the lane, appeared to get bumped pretty hard with no foul being called and missed a contested shot. On the fight for the rebound, he got elbowed to the nose which appeared to break his nose with about 16 seconds to go. Glover left and didn't come back into the game, although it looked like he was going to try to play with a broken nose if the game went into overtime. Glover was an absolute warrior last night. In the first half, you could see how he played throughout the season. His focus was on giving the ball up early to get plays going. Also, he took advantage of the few opportunities that he wasn't doubled to take his man off of the dribble and score or pass out to an open teammate. In the 2nd half, Furman ratcheted up the defense to the point where the Samford players weren't getting open to receive passes. So, Glover was forced to start going one-on-one to create shots for himself or his teammates. As the announcers kept saying, he is tremendously unselfish, and he could not be contained although being guarded by the conference's defensive player of the year. Glover ended up with 23 points and 4 assists on 7-14 shooting. He played 37 minutes because no one else on the team was able to initiate any offense. It was a tremendous performance, and it was apparent that he was fighting through exhaustion in the 2nd half. As an aside, the team was not playing a defense where you could be a bug out there. However, Glover had a couple of steals and some other disruptive plays, and his man did not score many points. As for it not being Glover's business to operate inside, that is one of the strongest parts of his game. The great majority of his shots come from inside, and he shoots 51.8% from 2. In comparison from the 2-point line, Appleby shoots 44% and Jones shoots 45.5%. Overall, Glover shoots 46.8% from the field while Appleby and Jones shoot 37.7% and 37.0% respectively. Finally, I view Glover as a true point guard who can score while, IMO, Appleby and Jones are 2-guards being forced to play out of position. My evaluation is that Glover is an excellent high-major level point guard who will only get better in his remaining 2 seasons. As an aside, Bucky McMillin is going to be a big-time college coach. In only his second season of college basketball coaching, he has taken a down in the dumps and undermanned Samford team and led them to their best season in the over 20 years.
