I want to give wing the benefit of the doubt and say he was saying "luck" as we were lucky to have Billy and he would have done that anywhere.

the luck was assembling that roster, especially keeping them together the 2nd year

Eh....I think Billy had a lot of good teams, players and experience to figure out who and what he needed to build elite teams.

While he never built a team THAT good again, the 2010, 2012, and 2013 teams (and I think the team that CMW took to the E8) were evidence he knew how to build championship level teams.

There is a huge divide, but with NIL we are on the winning side of that divide. Under the previous system we weren't willing to do what it took to get top talent. Now those contraints are gone, let's get to work and start bringing in the players.

If you don’t want to cheat, then you need to go the route where you recruit high school players that you can develop and keep those players together for four years. You also need a system that allows for the maximization of said talent, even if it takes a year or two for players to grasp it. Having a great system can help overcome a talent deficit. Lee Humphrey wasn’t the most talented basketball player, but Billy put him in position to do what he did best and he played his role well.

Billy had a system where the sum of the parts ended up being greater than the individual parts. I don’t think White has a system that can do the same. If you run a system that is reliant on having superior talent, then you better make sure you recruit superior talent. My opinion is White’s system doesn’t maximize the talent he has on hand, especially on offense.

I think NIL will keep many players in college longer as they will be paid to stay in school.

This was epitomized by the fact that all 5 starters averaged double figures, but the highest scorer among them only averaged 13. It was indeed the sum of the parts. It was a system that put each player in position to be successful. I'm not real clear as to what Mike's system is, since he often doesn't seem sure himself.

I’m a huge MW fan ! Now is not the time to even entertain the thought of making a change . We are not on a downward trend. Hope he is here for many years

I guess it depends on what we are trending. I wouldn't say White is on a downward trend anymore looking at his time here in a vacuum, we've more or less flatlined into the same season every year. Whether we've flatlined into a good spot is a matter of debate I guess. However, were certainly on a downward trend compared to prior 15 years.

Exactly. I've said all year he is an 18-13 coach. Well, if not for Pippin 2.0 in last game (he cost vandy the win single handly) we are 18-13 this yr. So we go 19-12. But think about it, for every win over Ohio St or a highly ranked Auburn, there is Tex Southern or some other loss to a crappy team. UF should expect better, not 18-13, then 1-1 in SEC then 1-1 in NCAA- hopefully get in- to finish 20-15.

Getting 20 wins in a 31 game regular season + SECC = 32-33 games. Every big time BB team plays some early lowly teams to get the kinks worked out, sort of like spring training for college BB. Say 3-4 per avg season, which for MW results in winning about 15-16 games per yr of about 28 or so which makes him a .500 coach.

Look at his SEC record. Mike White is vastly inferior to Billy Donovan, but he is also inferior to Lon Kruger and Norm Sloan.

usf should hire him. He would make them real happy winning 12-15 per yr.

    Unstoppable inbounds plays.

Inbounds plays was about the only thing BD wasn't good at and Mike White excels.

Maybe not on a downward trend, but we've been stagnant for the last five years with no indication that it will improve. If you see us improving, please tell us where you see it. I was a Mike White fan, but seven years in and we're basically treading water. You can only do that for so long before you get tired and sink.

    I will bite.

We started the year looking great on defense by being aggressive and overplaying passing lanes. That worked great until we played Oklahoma and they have one of the better coaches in Division I. We got backdoor cut to death. Other coaches look at film and that was what they did.

Now Coach White had to revamp our D on the fly and it took a while. Too bad we started off conference play with three of the best teams in the league.

Started off in a big hole and now are out of it.

Winning on Saturday would be huge, but not expected. I think we have a 3 in 10 chance of winning.

Did we kick the $h1T out of Georgetown to advance in 2006? There was some luck there.

Winning a natty in basketball always requires some luck. The better you are the less luck you need.
