Funny that there is no mention of Matt McCall (former Gator BB manager that went on to better things) losing his head coaching job at UMass.

Fun fact: He replaced Will Wade at Chattanooga.

Did a good job at Chattanooga but flopped bad at UMass. I haven’t followed him closely but my guess is that he wasn’t ready for that much of a jump yet. Will need to go to a smaller program and move up at a slower pace.

I don’t think that’s much of a jump. The Southern Conference is good, and Chattanooga is way better than RI.

UMass is a terrible job unless you're John Calipari and cheat to get Marcus Camby

Looking at Basketball Reference, Chattanooga’s SOS is 169 and RI’s is 129. Chattanooga is 24-7 and 14-4 in the conference. RI is 14-13 and 5-10 in the conference.

why do we have the references to RI (I am assuming it is Rhode Island) when he was at UMass. Did I miss something?

RI and UMass are both in the Atlantic 10 so I believe the point was the Chattanooga is better than RI (being another team in the same conference as UMass and only one spot behind them in the standings). Not sure I understand this point though. There are at least 4 teams in the Atlantic 10 that are better than Chattanooga.

My screw up. Sorry about that. UMass has the 117th strength of schedule. It has gone 13-16 and 6-11 in the conference this season.

Again, looking at Basketball Reference, the A-10 is rated as the 10th best basketball conference this season, and the Southern Conference is rated 13th out of 32 conferences.

Looking at Net ratings (order by conference ranking):
    A10
    Davidson 43
    VCU 48
    Dayton 54
    St Bonaventure 84
    Saint Louis 69
    Richmond 89

    Southern
    Chattanooga 69
    Furman 82
    Samford 181
    Wofford 105
    UNCG 159
    VMI 157

Clearly the A10 looks like a stronger conference with more teams in the top 100 Net.

I agree that the A10 is stronger, but probably not much stronger. I don't fully understand the NET. I follow Samford and watch their games. They have 7 wins over teams with higher NETs, including Ole Miss. Most of those wins have come fairly recently. They also finished 3rd in the Southern Conference. They have beaten every team in the Southern you have listed plus ETSU, which also is higher ranked than them. That is strange to me.
