He saved the season, and that is not an exaggeration. He was flawless with a minute left. Actually better than that, out of this world. Rarely do you see a guy hit all the key points. Hustle (getting back), defense (block), vision (assist), shot (3).
He’s really come on of late. Didn’t he have COVID earlier this year? I wonder how much that slowed his progress.
Unrelated, but was it strange that Gatkek was in for key possessions late last night? He ended up coming up big, getting a bucket and defending the inbound when Vandy threw it away. I was wondering if Castleton was in foul trouble, but he actually had zero fouls.
I think Castleton was gassed. White was getting him some rest on the last few defensive possessions when we were going to go for a quick steal and then foul if not, and then we were subbing Castleton back in for offense.
I don't know if CC was gassed or not, but we were going with a quicker lineup looking for steals and traps. CC is the far superior defender in the half court, but we were not going to let Vandy settle into a half court offense and run clock. G is very raw on the floor, but he is an athletic freak. I never expected him to make such a good and important basket down the stretch. Good for him. He is learning the game with trial by fire.
Helped me avoid the heart attack that I was about to have. He was money those last 3 minutes or so. I’m old, and I still like the mid-range game.
He gave CC a much needed breather ( CC looked a little tired during a couple of stretches of the game) Gak is thin, but looked like he runs well and has pretty good hands. That little quick pass from Fleming that he scored on happened so fast, I couldn’t believe he caught and converted it.
Gatkek and 25 pounds can become a Yeguete and more. He is actually more athletic, taller, and has better hands than Yeguete. Next year is a turn the page or close the book for Mike White.
1. Check out the #2 seed in the NBA's Eastern Conference. 2. Look up who their coach is. 3. Understand that he was one in a million. 4. What does that have to do with Phlan?
