Part of the original charter for the US government is, "To protect the general welfare." We usually see this in the form of defense spending. But not all enemies can be defeated by the military. And COVID-19 has already killed more Americans than any war.

There are benefits to a healthier population, including more production at work as less people take time off. Less healthcare costs as there are less people in the hospital. Less burnt out healthcare workers who have been dealing with those who think the vaccine isn't worth it now for a year, and the pandemic for over two years.

Government has mandated vaccines many times in the past. COVID should be no different. Public health is important.

And those numbers are all kids with underlying conditions. There aren’t healthy kids dying from covid at all. And we haven’t even discussed the 35-40% over counting of deaths that the cdc admits to.

that would apply to most states than right? I guess my point is, was it more natural immunity than the vaccine?

Over all I agree the vaccine saved a huge amount of lives. Just insane to me an article or model would try to claim how many lives were saved by the vaccine.

Can you point out what I cherry picked?

Speaking of Cherry picking, I specifically mentioned Omicron wave. Obviously the vaccines worked very well for Delta. I don’t put much faith in people from Alabama making wise decisions if you know what I mean haha.

oh and I can’t show anything from Scotland anymore since they decided to stop reporting data since the data was not helping the vaccine numbers with the Omicron wave.

Nope. The day speaks for itself. Sadly we have caused generational damage with the policies that have been put forth…

Yup, it would apply to all states.

I'd like to see such date but their absence doesn't negate claims about lives saved from vaccines given the significant rate differences. NI & vaxx protections are nearly equal (NI slightly better) but NI is also unmeasured, its effects would be to both reduce overall & unvaxxed death rates not any published rate differences between vaxxed and unvaxxed that we see because unvaxxed rates are net of any NI contribution.

I think it makes studies very hard at this point since many who are vaccinated have NI. Of course those who are unvaccinated I’m sure have a large amount with NI as well but there are going to be more in the vaccinated category due to majority of people are vaxxed.

Some of the early studies coming out in Feb are showing the gap widened in protection against Omicron between NI and the vax. Having the booster in the past 2 months seemed to make a huge difference from what data is available so far.

I can’t remember the country now, but just last week they decided to drop all Covid restrictions and let Omicron spread since they determined the vaccine was not stopping infection spread. I didn’t look at their vaccination rates but that’s a rough move to make unless your elderly and immune compromised are boosted. It’s the best idea in my book as long as those people are fully vaccinated.

Can you be sure of this. From this study published in JAMA, from figure 2, the risk of having a chronic disease (i.e. comorbidity), raised the risk for pediatric COVID hospitalization by about 5X. Meaning about 16.67% of kids had no comorbidity, and still ended up in the ICU with COVID.

This larger study showed that that yes, the risk for kids with no comorbidities is small, but isn't zero. Only .02% of kids with no comorbidities ended up in the hospital with serious case of COVID. That represents only 55 kids out of the 275,000 in this study, but it's not zero. This study was also published last year, before the Omicron variant, which may be less virulent, but certainly orders of magnitude higher in how contagious it is.

Which is why we saw a rise in pediatric COVID hospitalizations recently. And the majority of them were unvaccinated.

Pediatric infectious disease specialists said most of the children hospitalized with Covid are unvaccinated. Shane said children with underlying conditions who are vaccinated but got breakthrough infections are having much less severe symptoms than those who are unvaccinated and they are not being hospitalized with Covid-related complications.

“The biggest risk factor at this point is being unvaccinated,” said Dr. Sean O’Leary, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
The risk of any kid being hospitalized with COVID is low. It goes even lower if the kid is vaccinated.

Quite a few countries have reduced or eliminated nearly all restrictions in the wake of omicron receding rapidly. Haven't read that it's bc "vaccines "don't work" Heck, we're seeing it here too, albeit due to federalism, the power to make such determinations internally are largely at the state & county levels, with changes happening at different speeds. It's a sign that experts believe covid is becoming endemic.

To your point about vaccine effectiveness--sure, in a sense we need more data and study (that will always be the case). I wouldn't be surprised that when it all shakes out for Jan & Feb we might see an increased difference between boosters and full vaxxed wrt deaths.

But, at least through early Jan, rate differences between unvaxxed & vaxxed were widening, despite counts showing an increased number of vaxxed dying. This is in large part an outcome of a much larger fully vaxxed pop, whose death rate remained significantly lower than vaxxed.

Where this fails is with those who have pre existing conditions where they can't be vaccinated. Your myopic refusal could kill someone sitting next to you on a park bench.

OK, my sister died of cancer and she had covid. Nobody knows but without covid she may have lived many months more. How important were the lost months? I don't know maybe we should ask her 4 year old grand daughter.

And? Then that person shouldn't be on a park bench and if they are they should be responsible for themselves.
My girl is immunocompromised, 3x cancer survivor. Unvaccinated by choice. Made it through Delta on OTC meds and rest. She is a nurse.

Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. I got three shots. My arm hurt a little with the second one. What convoluted nonsense do you and your girl believe, to think there is any reason for someone who can be vaccinated shouldn't be vaccinated?

So you don't think we all share common responsibilities. If a little child is lost, do you just walk on by? If an older person is confused and disoriented, di you not try to get them some help? If your neighbors house is on fire, Do you not call 911?

I am glad that I don't know you, I suspect you are just riling people up.
