So your quibble is largely a semantic one. First of all, if we are going to quibble over semantics, "colonization" would be colonialism, not imperialism. We have military bases all around Western Europe and a permanent American presence in Europe, instituted the Marshall Plan (and successor programs to rebuild in our image) and largely control NATO policy by virtue of our economic backing, but we didn't annex Germany or send in settlers after WWII, is that it?

Why do they need to? They made a statement. I don't care what Bernie or AOC thinks ... the only people obsessed with what they think are right wingers who wouldn't vote for them no matter what position they took.

My quibble is with falsely claiming the US is tacitly to blame for something that is the fault of one man, and using a purposely inappropriate and derogatory word to make that point. It smacks of partisan politics more than a legitimate policy statement.
But defend it all day I guess, I didn’t come back to argue over this stuff, I will refrain from further responses.

So much more than that though.

    The key differences are:

Iraq invaded kuwait. They thereby invited us into their living room.

Per terms of surrender, they agreed to rectal exams on the regular, to ensure they weren't pursuing WMD.

They dicked around with us for a decade...

    9/11 happened...

We were no longer of any humor at all, about playing games.

    We felt threatened.

    Iraq posed a potential threat.

    Vs--

Ukraine poses no threat to Russia, beyond pissing on their dreams of imperialism.<---this is proper use of the term, @wgbgator

(...but Russia does pose a threat to Ukr. As you may have discerned per recent developments).

Their party is the Democratic party, and they are largely saying the same thing as other Democrats.

So it's ok to hammer conservatives on trump but not ok to ask AOC and Sanders about their party stance.

This thread was much better when it was just information about the conflict in Ukraine.

Maybe there should be a thread about the ramifications of the Crimean War? I'm interested in what's happening in Ukraine, but more so due to our various' nations' responses and the ramifications thereof than the war itself.

The reason is Russia has breached the peace of the world and invaded its neighbor for conquest, committing terrible atrocities by anyone’s measure. So there is reason. I believe what you are trying to say is that the risk exceeds the reason. And that’s understandable. I happen not to agree, but I certainly understand.

Lol… Sanders isn’t a democrat. And AOC is one of 276 democrats in congress, her opinion doesn’t mean any more or less to me than John Yarmuth of Kentucky.

Let’s try to keep this thread about the war itself going forward.

When EF Hutton speaks, people listen!

    When AOC speaks, Nancy listens!

DSA also moronically demanded we pull out of NATO and blamed NATO for Putin's actions. They exposed themselves as clowns.

Great observation, I guess by your logic whatever statement Pelosi puts out there has AOC's blessing ... so question answered, good job!

Feel free to look up what they've said. I'm sure they've made some sort of statement. Have I read it? No. Because I don't care. Nor do I care what "Jewish Space Laser" Marjorie has to say.
