While current situation isn't completely analogous to the situation in Europe in the '30s there are a number of similarities. The chances are the Putin would have probably invaded Ukraine even if Trump hadn't acquiesced to his annexation of Crimea or Russia's defacto occupation of Donbas.

The point is why does it need a historical analogy? People invoke Munich willy nilly, often in service of a disproportionate military response in lieu of diplomatic efforts.

Comparing western Putin appeasers to Chamberlain is like comparing Trump straight up to Hitler.

Obviously it isn’t going to be completely analogous, it’s more or less hyperbole, although clearly Trump is a wannabe fascist/authoritarian who would also appease Putin’s moves. That puts him even deeper into the abyss as far as being the worst and most un-American domestic politician in U.S. history.

Trump would probably be akin Mussolini in the analogy.

Ukraine is a distraction. Thanks Michele Bachmann for opening our eyes. o_O We all knew this was a Biden /Soros plan to destroy America.

You think Carlson and Ingraham saw that and thought, "Hmm, I'll give that a shot tonight, see how it flies."

You know what's really depressing: When people believe that kind of stuff - IF she really does believe it - there's absolutely no way to reach them. No amount of facts, no amount of reality will make a difference.

Trump, days before the Russian invasion….

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful, I said, 'How smart is that?' And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper….”

“pretty smart…..He’s taken over a country for $2 worth of sanctions,” he said, “taking over a country — really a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people — and just walking right in.”

Idiotic. Not only was he praising a murderous dictator, he was totally wrong about the cost.

I suspect that the Russian sanctions will cost Trump a lot more than $2.

Since the Putin Biden thread is gone for some reason, here is a question to ask:

Listened to another podcast on the subject with Anne Applebaum and she said based upon some of the very specific things Tucker is saying that she suspects he is parroting Russian propaganda, either directly or indirectly.

I turned the TV yesterday and Fox was on with Laura Ingraham. The first segment was a guy rescuing Ukrainians and she was very sympathetic to their plight and acted horrified at the situation. But the next guest was a guy who basically was saying it was all the US fault and specifically Biden as president and VP. While she seemed distraught at the Ukrainian suffering, there was no mention of Putin or Russia. It was basically just an unavoidable result of prior US failures, mostly due to Joe Biden

Tucker Carlson blames Kamala Harris for his support of Russia

Carlson tries to defend his previous support for Putin and Russia by claiming he couldn't be expected to believe Putin would really attack Ukraine because Kamala Harris was involved and she would never be involved in any serious issues.
    Or something like that.

Not a fair comparison because Crimea was invaded in 2014, before Trump.
