I wish we could support Ukraine with air strikes on their convoys like we did in 1991 to the Iraqis that pillaged Kuwait. Maybe we can paint Ukrainian flags on our jets. Think Putin would buy it?

Supposedly that was on her Instagram page before the invasion and she’s holding an airsoft gun.

***** want to correct something I'd said earlier but it's in multiple posts. Apparently the comment about war criminals going to Hell was made by the Ukrainian ambassador in his speech at the UN and NOT the Russian one.

Still want the Russian ambassador to have to sit there and watch then reply to photos/footage. And I mean the verified ones not the ones that are analyzed as fakes (either video game footage, had happened in 2014, etc).

A Russian column that attempted to advance from the West, on the highway linking Kyiv to Lviv, was destroyed in nighttime fighting inside Kyiv, witnesses said. Bodies lay on the ground, amid the smoldering remains of armored vehicles and trucks. Presumed Russian infiltrators, traveling in civilian vehicles, were also gunned down by Ukrainian troops as they tried to approach the Ukrainian Parliament building, the witnesses said. Intense firefights were reported in other locations throughout the capital.

After daybreak on Saturday, Ukrainian regular troops and volunteers of the newly formed Territorial Defense force regained the upper hand, erecting roadblocks, firing positions and other fortifications around the city, particularly in the government district and near bridges spanning the Dnipro river. Trucks accompanied by police ferried ammunition as civilians lined up patiently in grocery stores, at pharmacies and teller machines.

A large supermarket on Kyiv’s Antonovycha street was well stocked, with fresh bread, pineapples and Italian cheese, and some of the checkout lanes still accepted Apple Pay. A handful of basement bars reopened as makeshift shelters, serving espressos before the 5 p.m. curfew kicked in. At one bar, customers were asked to show their passports to prove that they weren’t Russian citizens.

The biggest lines in the Ukrainian capital were at the recruitment centers for the Territorial Defense. At one sports facility converted for this purpose, several hundred volunteers, commanded by career military officers, loaded crates of ammunition into civilian vehicles and sped off to their positions.

From CNN live...a shift in Germany

"Germany will deliver anti-tank weapons and missiles to Ukraine

    From Inke Kappeler in Berlin

Germany will deliver weapons to Ukraine in a major policy shift after resisting Kyiv's previous calls for defensive weaponry.

In its coalition agreement, the German government had agreed on a restrictive arms export policy that does not allow any weapons deliveries to crisis regions. The delivery of such weapons also has historical connotations post-World War II.

"The Russian attack marks a change in times. It is our duty to support Ukraine as much as we can defending themselves against Putin's invasion army. Therefore we will deliver 1,000 antitank weapons and 500 stinger missiles to our friends in Ukraine," German Chancellor Olaf Scholz tweeted Saturday after a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Lithuania's President Gitanas Nauseda"

Putin could soon increase the lethality of his attack.

“In a worrying sign, video from Russia's Western border with Ukraine showed TOS-1 heavy flamethrower tanks moving towards its neighbour. The tanks are capable of firing high-power thermobaric weapons - dubbed the 'father of all bombs'”

Why Putin's '£15BILLION-a-day' invasion ISN'T going to plan

Any way to take those out for the Ukrainians? Like if they were given the positions do they have anything capable of taking that out beforehand?

Edit - you know they're going after civilians with that.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/02/volodymyr-zelensky-ukraine-president/622938/

Yesterday, Zelensky told a videoconference of European leaders that they would likely not ever see him again. The whole world can see that his execution is very likely imminent. What reason does he have to doubt that Vladimir Putin will order his murder, as the Russian leader has done with so many of his bravest critics and enemies? Zelensky’s fate is so clear that Washington offered to extricate him from Kyiv, so that he could form a government in exile. But Zelensky swatted away the promise of safety. He reportedly preferred that Washington deliver him more arms for his resistance: “The fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.”

A week ago it wasn’t at all obvious that the world would rally to Ukraine’s cause. Nor was it clear that the Ukrainian people would mount a collective resistance to the invasion of their country. There are many reasons why the tide has turned like it has, of course. But it is hard to think of another recent instance in which one human being has defied the collective expectations for his behavior and provided such an inspiring moment of service to the people, clarifying the terms of the conflict through his example.

We've seen this play out so many times before in wars. An invading force, with little incentive or motivation for being there, gets its ass kicked repeatedly by those defending their homeland.

I'm trying to think of the last US president I could see picking up a gun and standing his ground with soldiers against an attack like this. W Bush?

Hah. I think of Clint Eastwood's character in Gran Torino when I think of senior Bush in this scenario.

If Putin has Zelensky murdered, world outrage would be tremendous.
