I completely agree with invoking Article 5 if Putin moves militarily against a NATO state. No question.

But there’s a lot of dangerous rhetoric going around related to an offensive cyber strike, or looking at article 5 if Russia launches cyber activities against Ukraine that have collateral damage against a NATO neighbor. Have to be very, very careful we don’t allow another Gulf of Tonkin (cyber version) situation from all the surprising number of hawks in DC right now.

It's hard for me to imagine that the elderly Reagan lovers who make up so much of Fox News' audience are watching this and not wondering what the hell is going on with their so-called patriotic news channel ... are their minds really so soft that they are eating this up? I'm going to have to feel my parents out on this one next time I see them ...

It's kinda funny that same people who watch this crap call CNN the "Commie News Network"... It's like their brains are broken.

I know, but this quick pivot to "Russia's not so bad, let them try to rebuild the Soviet Union through force" over the last couple of years ... it's just unimaginable to me as someone who heard the way my parents talked about Russia as a kid, and told me about the nuclear attack drills they had to do in school, could now watch this kind of coverage.

As much as I wish I could say otherwise, the elements aren’t present under those facts.

The Russian media seem to think they are receiving aid and comfort from them.

Even if that were the case, technically, at the time he made his statement, Russia was an adversary, not an “enemy” within the meaning of the clause. Arguably, that is still the case. There is a strong argument that “enemy” when it comes to nations, for purposes of the clause, requires a declaration of war by Congress.

But I would agree that, as anyone should know that this was going to be harnessed by Putin to justify his thuggery, it is “treasonous” as we colloquially refer to in our personal views, but I can’t say that the elements of the offense of treason in the constitution are met.

I will take your word for it that the technical requirements haven't been met. But it doesn't feel right.

It isn’t just about Ukraine. It is about Putin’s states ambitions and his history of invading multiple countries. He regrets the fall of the Iron Curtain. At each step and after each invasion, we say it is not in our interest. The Sudetenland wasn’t in our interest. Nor was Poland. Nor was Europe. Until it was made our interest. Putin’s vision is Stalinesque. As Germany was being pushed back in WW2, Stalin diverted to countries so he could re-shape the post WW2 map. Putin’s stated intention is to recreate that map. The policy question is: when do we say, this has gone far enough. Biden dee the line at NATO’s borders. Because you have to stand up to authoritarians. Biden was accused of being a warmonger here for calling out the Russians by a poster who joined in February and then disappeared. Others echoed this. Putin has been defended by Carlson and his ilk. Just like American Nazis supported Hitler in the 1930s. The divisions we see here are eerily similar. So, when do you stand up to a Stalin?

Meanwhile, US congressmen attend a white nationalist convention who give Russia a round of applause.

I think it’s even beyond the Iron Curtain. I think he sees himself as a Neo-Tsar of “greater Russia.”

I'm going to show my age somewhat.

"Aid and Comfort"...Hanoi Jane, who so many like to defend and hold as a role model, etc. Yeah, she did that and more (disputes on how much more). Those that defend her but are all over Tucker, Trump, etc...yeah that's how some of us feel about Hanoi Jane. "Oh she was young...it was war...it wasn't that bad...get over it..." Some things should never be forgotten or forgiven.

Those that criticize Hanoi Jane but defend Trump, etc? They may not be posing for pics on enemy tanks and berating soldiers, etc, but they ARE providing support to enemies by heaping praise & providing propaganda for lack of a better word. So yeah, those supporting Putin, Trump, Tucker, etc, may want to take a moment to reflect.
