I played in a pickup game at southwest rec center against the 04’s when they were frosh. Noah dunked on me and I yelled at my teammate for not helping as if I had a chance.

Neal Walk, Andy Owens, Tony Miller, A guy named Roger Strickland who played one year behind Jerry West in LA. Eddie Shannon. A bunch of guys on the ABA Floridians team.

On the WNBA front, there was a set of twins who were in a Double Mint chewing gum commercial in the late 70's, early 80's. Maybe it wasn't the WNBA then but they were pros. They started showing up at our Friday noon pickup game. Fun times. Great memories.

mullen was before his time. No one did the street tricks he did. It was all ramps and pools back then.

Played against Doug and Darren Flutie (Darren was the better athlete). Both really good players. Moten was ridiculous.

BTW - had Rodney mullen in Physics classes and saw him board around campus. True that of all the hoops players mentioned in this thread, Mullens was the most impactful in his sport from Gainesville. Kid was a freak.

My buddy got dunked on by Vince Carter at a park there on A1A in Daytona. Unreal how much hops that guy had. Not that it was needed to dunk on us lol

Hops and height. I know that court well lol. There's only one court on A1A there. We were talking about Vince years before anyone heard of him outside of Daytona. Really wished he had gone to Florida but it worked out for us in the end.

Jabbar, shut him down when he played for Power (only loss they had) scored 40, 20 boards, 10 assists, 5 blocks, 5 steals

    He cried after.

I played 1A ball for Laurel Hill, Fla.

I'm 5'-8" 160, slow but determined, he was over-rated, went up there expecting more competition.

Wooden offered me but 7-11 offered me a sales job at the register, I could not turn that down. Besides I had 2 dogs, could not leave them behind.

Stop by the store, still working the cash register, I will show you some pics of Kareem (Lou) in tears.

I used to play at Littlewood as well during the very early 80s. There was a guy there who was a D2 All American at Birmingham Southern. He was very good. There also was a goofy looking white dude that shot from the hip. Despite what seemed like an easy defense of his shot, it wasn't. He rarely missed. I didn't play against him, but Frank Johnson was in our district when he was at Lake Weir.

I played at that park maybe five times. My friend’s dad lived a couple blocks away. Some of the most fun I’ve had in pick up games. It would get a little breezy out there which had to be accounted for though

I guess you could call it a beard, but I think you are right in that his name was Sid. Sid Martin also played there regularly.

Knew Sid Martin well. He lived across the street from me for a few years. His brother John would even play from time to time.
