Hard to determine. As I stated earlier, despots grow stronger with military victories and weaker with defeats. As long as Putin is winning, he’ll be fine. If the generals begin to sense he has brought them into a disaster, then they will probably overthrow him.

I would hope that the Russian units tasked with seizing that area put a very large No Fire Area (NFA) restriction around the entire plant and town. An NFA basically means that larger weapon systems, such as artillery, Close Air Support, etc, cannot be fired into that area. And that the units were constantly reminded of it during their rehearsals.

"Well you see, Dan Mullin's (or Putin's) position grew weaker with defeats and setbacks, winning would have made his position stronger." This is the kind of top drawer analysis I come here for, whether its sports or world affairs.

The President's remarks were forceful and hopefully, the sanctions will be effective.

Biden was not prepared to comment their efforts to get China's support of sanctions and stated that they are still working on India.

Probably something that Putin did not anticipate.

This is chess, not checkers. We could not engage China with the majority of our might because that would open the door for Russia to go further than Ukraine. Think strategy, not tactics.

Oh, listen to the criticism from the guy who thinks the existential crisis we’re facing is Global Warming or the evil capitalists instead of the madman with a nuclear arsenal who just invaded his neighbor.

Let me spell it out for you before your next persuasive “Workers of the world, unite!” tirade:

Democracies tend to be more resilient in the face of military defeats than autocracies, and the people aren’t as awed by the victories. If that seems obvious to you, then well done. Maybe you do understand something of how the actual world works.
