This is not accurate. We have the forces just not the commitment at present.

Check out NATO Article 5. If you think it’s not a big deal then ask yourself why Putin was so adamant that Ukraine not join NATO - so much so that it’s arguably the main reason he’s invading now.

That is a terrible misstep by Kerry and he knows better after dealing with this exact issue back in 2014 as SecState.

Responded to post suggesting the person in office is the problem. The alternative is out with his opinions publicly. Anything else from you?

    here’s the confused alternative.

Military intervention? Are you joking? The spirits of Neville Chamberlain and Lord Halifax lives on.

(Reuters) – The Biden administration is not expected to target Russia's crude oil and refined fuel sector with sanctions cutting off trade, due to concerns about inflation and the harm it could do to its European allies, global oil markets and U.S. consumers, officials say.

Italy, Germany and Cyprus are pushing for a dilution of EU sanctions
There is a general EU consensus for energy and financial sanctions on Russia, but their severity could be weakened by these countries

Biden has been presented with a menu of options for the U.S. to carry out massive cyberattacks designed to disrupt Russia’s ability to sustain its military operations in Ukraine, four people familiar with the deliberations tell NBC News.

Two U.S. intelligence officials, one Western intelligence official and another person briefed on the matter say no final decisions have been made, but they say U.S. intelligence and military cyber warriors are proposing the use of American cyber weapons on a scale never before contemplated. Among the options: Disrupting internet connectivity across Russia, shutting off electric power, and tampering with railroad switches to hamper Russia’s ability to re-supply its forces, three of the sources said.

“You could do everything from slow the trains down to have them fall off the tracks,” one person briefed on the matter said.

Perhaps if the de facto leader of the gop and his sycophants would stop tossing praise at our sworn enemy Mr. Putin, especially now that a war has broken out. Just sayin.

Yup, lots of misinfo flying both directions and it will be a bit until we get a better picture.
All depends on the people and entrenched moles. Putin would love a quick surrender to claim the people rejected democracy and he saved them….hmmmm

That would be awesome if true. They should be taken out of country and handed over to NATO just be sure they are safe. If it’s true, these soldiers would become an immediate target for Putin.

It also leads some credence to the idea Putin has lost his marbles. Which might actually be more frightening, because you can’t count on rational actions/responses.

So we do have the forces? That's exactly what I was saying to the other poster who claimed we didnt.

If our present forces are indeed 'too small' and we require more funding we aren't going to find them without a draft or conscription!

Not a single fancy dinner party has been canceled in DC for the coming weekend. Same goes for London, Berlin and Paris...

I actually think we should be a bit more targeted in any cyber attack, just because there does seem to be evidence of a nascent anti-war movement building in Russia (they just arrested 900+ in Moscow apparently) and we probably don't want to pull that offline as something to give Putin another headache.
