Interesting to see what Michigan does. I’d think we’d hear something immediately.

Inexcusable, sure. But this isn't "any workplace" either. I'm in the "shouldn't be fired" camp at the moment.

yeah, in this video both coaches address it and Howard says he got upset about the TO because he felt it was unnecessary, even though his guys were pressing full court down double digits with 15 seconds left, and UW's backups that were in at the time weren't able to get it over halfcourt. He also says that because Gard was touching him on the chest in the handshake line, he needed to "protect himself."

Gard says Howard said something to him on the way through the line and that's why he tried to stop him.

Not Howard’s first rodeo with blowing up.
Would you say Michigan should act immediately?
What if they don’t act at all?

After watching the video I’m amazed there is no apology from Howard. His almost arrogant attitude is concerning. Wisconsin’s Coach called a time out late, so what. Urban and Spurrier did the same and would never expect a punch to be thrown at them.

And he claimed he had to "defend himself" because Gard put his hands on him. He was a few feet away when he swung over his own coaches holding him back. Also Gard may have stopped him and technically put hid hands on him but Howard grabbed his shirt and was aggressive in his demeanor.

He should be fired but won’t get fired for political reasons I’m sure…but I guarantee any other coach probably would have.

Dude has anger management issues big time. That hard to act like a grown adult?

Unfortunately I think you're right. He won't learn anything from this, just like the last time.

Agreed, guessing Michigan will act quick. AD and president already apologized yet the one that took it next level doesn’t apologize. Guessing he will apologize publicly tomorrow. Will have to sit last few games of season. Guessing AD meeting with him tonight about apology and discipline.

Conference will respond quickly followed by the school. I’m thinking 4 game suspension although I think a firing is warranted given his past

Some are trying to call both coaches equally complicit. Ridiculous in my opinion

I might have to put this theory to the test. I won't get fired, right? Political reasons, eh?

I don't think Michigan should act immediately, but I think it should act quickly. The decision makers need enough time to examine the situation and meet with Howard, whether that's in person or via phone/video chat. By "quickly," I mean that I would expect for the university to respond at or before noon on Tuesday. The conference has already come forth with a statement and I wouldn't be surprised if MI doesn't do that (or more) tomorrow. I feel there is zero chance that UM won't act at all. At a minimum, there will be a public reprimand.
As for punishment, I'm on record suggesting that given what I know, he should not be fired for this. A fine and one week suspension from all activities would be appropriate, imho. With that, he would miss the next two games against Rutgers and Illinois and then return for the final three. Maybe there are other circumstances that I'm not aware of, which would alter my opinion.

By immediately, I mean Within 24 hours. There’s really no reason for this to go over 24 hours. Meet with Coach tomorrow. Let him know and he needs to apologize via a live presser and I’d say he sits for last few games. That’s light. They have what 3 more games, big ten tournament, and I disagree that right now they are one of the last four in with a poor record but nonetheless they’ll at least be in the NIT. A week is not enough in my opinion. He went after Turgeon last year.

Here’s the problem… He was arrogant in his press conference and it would’ve been very easy to apologize and say this was a very unfortunate situation or something like that but he didn’t and he’s had problems before.
Here’s another problem… hIs AD and President have already apologized. It seems he doesn’t see the error or errors that he is making.

Without knowing behind the scenes issues or merits of the guy I'd say this episode along with last year's would justify more than a 1 week suspension. If this was a one time deal than sure 1 week but he's lucky if he keeps his job.

All of this is moot if he continues the he touched me first excuse in which case he would need to go.

I won't argue with this, except that the last few games, which is actually five and four which are huge games, is a light punishment. That five game suspension would be substantial and too much, again imho.

Wisconsin AD not happy. Wisconsin’s Coach tried to stop and explain. Howard threw the punch way after that.

The Big Ten said it “will take swift and appropriate disciplinary action when it completes its review.” McIntosh said he had spoken to conference commissioner Kevin Warren and expected the league to “act swiftly and aggressively.”

“There’s no room, no space for conduct like that in any competition, much less a Big Ten competition,” McIntosh said. “The Big Ten takes pride in sportsmanship. The Big Ten takes pride in acting with class. That didn’t happen today.”

I think the administration needs to send a message that Howard works for them, not vice versa. That's when Knight turned into a megalomaniac. He thought he outranked the university president.
