And in between cases went way up (12/22 had 1524 cases, 2/14 had 475 cases, but 1/3 had 9201 cases). What wouldn't make sense is if mandates were lifted while cases were increasing. But in all of your examples, the mandates have been lifted as cases have been decling and are a fraction of the peak from a few weeks before.

You do know that the data for these states is easy to find, right?

Nevada implemented a mandate when cases were at 1150 and heading up. They ended the mandate when cases were at 974 and heading down. In between they hit 7382.

Oregon implemented a mandate when cases were at 1777 and heading up. When they announced a March end to the mandate in February, cases were at 1828 and heading down. In between they hit 10910.

Hospitalizations and death are lagging indicators. Cases are leading. When total cases decrease, there will be a followed drop in hospitalizations and deaths. Usually 7-10 days for hospitalizations, and about 3 weeks for deaths.

Just about everywhere around the country, cases have dropped significantly. About 64% nation wide. A very good indicator things are currently changing. Hopefully for the better and for the long term.

I'm disappointed we are still arguing over mask effectiveness after two years. I understand why, tho. It's what happens when univariate inclined thinkers encounter a multivariate system. Unfortunately it's far too impractical to send folks back to high school.

If it wasn't for the optimism I felt right before delta, I would be pretty pumped about covid being over in another month.

No. The numbers are now getting better. The numbers were increasing steeply when the mask mandates were implemented. The curve was exponentially up when the mandates were issued and the CDC changes the guidance because of Delta. Then Omicron later with a high infection rate (RO). The numbers are declining exponentially now and the guidance is changing because of decline of Omicron and the resultant immunities. And the virus is largely not novel.

You know what I didn't know? I didn't know Covid gave people drug overdoses. I learn something new everyday.

You mean like saying FL is doing bad with Covid deaths even though FL has the 4th oldest Population and this virus targets the elderly? You mean that kind of "lying using statistics"? Practice what you preach.

Give me a data source to work with, where can I find age adjusted numbers?

I've posted them in the past when you made the same claim. Go find them. BUT you know that FL is the 4th oldest population in the nation. This virus targets the elderly. Not complicated. But hey, you keep ripping DeSantis any chance you get.

States Ranked by Age-Adjusted COVID Deaths

FL #33 for age-adjusted deaths. Among the big 4, better than NY & TX, worse than CA.

Underlying numbers came from CDC provisional counts (as the website makes clear).

FL ranked 19th in age adjusted deaths. Better than average. I assume the poster ripping DeSantis will apologize...

I wasn't ripping DeSantis, I was pushing back against holding him up as the gold standard. Maybe some people have low standards for what they consider the gold standard, but 19th out of 50 doesn't seem like the gold standard to me. You do you.

Do you have a link to the data?

Ain't that the thing. Multiple people holding DeSantis up as being the best with covid. Leaving aside my own disagreement with & dislike of his approach, the push back hasn't been about ripping him, but about cutting down the bogus lifting of him up on some pedestal.

It's hard to tell how good a job Florida is doing vs Covid given of the opaqueness in reporting.

Florida won't publicly report how tourism season affects COVID counts

"Florida's latest surge of COVID-19 did little to scare away tourists and snowbirds, state data show, but the influx of visitors and the state's lack of public case tracking may exaggerate case counts reported elsewhere and undercount them here.

When an out-of-stater catches the potentially deadly respiratory disease in Florida, state health officials don't report it to the public. Instead, they follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by sending that data to the person's home state. Officials from the nonresident's state report the data to the CDC, which adds the case to the home state's infection tally, not Florida's.

Florida stopped publishing those numbers in June.

The uncoupling of infection numbers from their origin could complicate public health response by overstating, or understating, infection rates in given areas, experts say. It also downplays the risk of coming to a state like Florida, which has fought mask and vaccine requirements, as well as other safety measures, and downplayed the efficacy of inoculations."

You blamed DeSantis for "excess deaths". Well I showed he did better than "average". I'm sure you will correct your post, right?

Manipulation of data by a different means. Smacks of NY/Cuomo trying to hide nursing home deaths.
