Chase and Dontay both played out of position at UF. Gak appeared to be ready to play at some point in his last season at UF and went elsewhere when he didn’t play. As long as we are laughing our asses off, I am laughing my ass off at your continuous putting down of Ques Glover as not being a high major player and saying that you would take Jones over him at the point every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

They were injured before having the opportunity to play out of position or “bulk up”, which is why your narrative is misleading or ill-informed. I’ll let you pick which.

Gak dislocated his shoulder in October. There was hope that rest, therapy and “playing thru pain” was possible. It wasn’t. He shut it down in December and had needed surgery.

“Putting him down”? I defy you to find a single post in which I “put him down”.
I was very excited about Glover, but his time here didn’t suggest to me that he was a high major player. He is now succeeding at a lower level, and I am very happy for him.
And, for the record, I would love to see him get back to a high major and prove me and many others wrong. I’m rooting for him.

Here is a kinda funny question…. If Coach White leaves, coaches at a far smaller school, and succeeds …will that be indication he was a high major caliber coach all along, or will you default to his time here as a more accurate barometer?

PS: I’d still take Myreon Jones

I'm not really bagging on the talent, who knows the Freshmen could be the next coming of the 04s, I just don't buy the premise that CMW should be retained because of the incoming class or roster which is often made (not by you here admittedly).

I understand I just hate to see any good man and to me a good coach lose their job. I agree with you just hate it.

But were they playing out of position? We are small compared to most SEC teams on the interior. White shortens his bench during SEC play which means certain players are playing major minutes. The beating and banging interior players take adds up.

Can anyone think of any other basketball coach who has had injury issues like White has? At a certain point bad luck goes out the window. Muschamp had so many knee injuries that people wondered if he was cursed while here. He moves on to USC and they start having the same injury issues.

The fact that you would still take Myreon Jones pretty much calls into question everything you have said in support of Mike White. Glover carried Samford to a win over a healthy Ole Miss team on the road and won national player of the week honors because of it. Jones scored zero points in 20+ minutes against Ole Miss on the road in the Gator loss against an injured Ole Miss team. Glover has had his best games for Samford against the toughest teams on its schedule, including teams that could beat Florida. Samford is having the best season that it has had in years, and Glover is leading the way.
As for Dontay and Chase, they both bulked up way too much and played out of position. I don’t know if that had anything to do with any of their injuries, but I did post back when Chase’s high school team played a game in Tampa that he was a small forward and should not be moved to the 4. As for Gak, I remember watching his last game at UF on December 28, 2019. He only played 5 minutes or so even though he looked good and looked like he could have played more. He quit the team 2 days later.

And finally, your favorite coach, Mike Anderson, hammered Xavier on the road tonight. LMAO.

He just has to produce more at a school like Florida or we all have to accept that being a top 25 program is out of our reach. Simple as that until we see him produce like he did early on.

A healthy Myron Jones is better than anything Glover did from what I remember. I mean it's a great story but give me the guy who can shoot 3s at least. Yes I understand he was trash earlier in the year but has figured it out lately.

You do realize that some of the players currently struggling at Florida … had similar accolades at much smaller schools, right?
Success at one level does not always translate at another.
Again, I am thrilled Glover is doing well, and hope it affords him opportunity to prove himself at a high major.
As for Jones, he is shooting nearly 40% from the arc and averaging just under 10ppg in SEC play. I am not convinced Glover would replicate those numbers, so I remain comfortable with my choice.

You did not address my hypothetical regarding Coach White. . .

Not exactly what I said, and I have a lot higher playing experience than men's rec league teams.

I am not saying that you don’t have higher playing experience. Although that’s no slight. I played on 5 or 6 city league and summer teams that would have wiped Binghamton University off the floor. I value those experiences way more than my experience playing for Binghamton. However, it’s in rec league that we basically play without a coach.

You don’t get it. Glover stunk at UF as a sophomore. Lewis was an average player at UF. That is purely misleading. That was Mike White. Glover is not a good small forward. Why the hell did he play off the ball at UF. Go watch him play now. He is outstanding in practically every single game he plays, and some of those teams would beat UF. He also initiates the offense rather than is the offense. He is a high scoring, play initiating point guard. He is averaging 18.6 ppg in less than 30 mpg while doing all the other things a point guard is supposed to do, including playing outstanding defense. He also is not taking many 4’s and is shooting 54% from 2 in really difficult situations. Put Myreon Jones on Samford instead of Glover, and Samford would have a losing record instead of being 16-9.

But he recruited those kids so he has to live with that decision. He has made mistakes constantly over the years here. I like CMW, he is a good dude, he is just not the dude for our program. After 7 years everyone should see that by now. He has made a good living off getting half full crowds at the O dome. Time to move on for both parties. I was never a Glover believer so I tend to agree with you on that point. Jones has not lived up to his reputation, only had a few good games.

Yes… I understand. I am not using the transfers struggling as an excuse for Coach White.
It is a totally different discussion in which I am pointing out that success at one level does not always translate to the same success at another.

The issue is Glover is two years younger than Jones. Jones is a senior this year while Glover is a sophomore. The difference in playing experience is also much greater, as Glover almost never saw the court under White.

You are also comparing apples to oranges. Glover would be here as a point guard, and not a shooting guard. This would be like comparing Nebhard’s stats to that of Jones and Appleby and saying we are better off without Nebhard because of shooting percentage.

This is a discussion that began in November, a time when Jones was handling a fair amount of pg duties.

Tampa had suggested Glover would be an upgrade over our backcourt, including Tyree. I disagreed, and also stated I would prefer Jones as our pg over Glover.

it was a discussion without the caveats of age. Instead, it was about who would be better for the team …. now.

I had my opinions and they remain unchanged.

That said, I am very happy for Glover. I was super excited about him, and still root for his success.
