It should be an interesting book. Props to Billy for calling it out like we've always known but glad to see him getting credit in the story.
This Code guy, what a twat. He can't figure out why he's in trouble for "doing his job," and goes on to say there's not a clean program in America. Of course he offers no proof, nor even evidence, to back that claim up. That said, confirmed cheats like Pearl and Wade must be dancing little jigs every day, now that NIL has legalized what they were doing all along. Probably see themselves as visionaries, instead of lying little cheats.
other than a coach keeping his personal integrity, it doesn't pay to be clean in college basketball. It cost us our best coach, possibly ever.
No doubt Code spins this story to be the innocent one. Nevertheless I believe the corruption part. I guess amateur athletics is an impossibility in big money sports Pretty sad statement on society IMO. None of the graft and corruption could happen with honest people playing by rules. While I disgustingly understand the current reality, I also hope that as many liars, cheaters and thieves, at any level, get exposed, so they at least have to squirm that the public knows they are neither good or honorable, and are treated like the ass hats they are. Sucks the FBI is protecting so many (good men) lol I would hope that fans, of programs like Kansas, LSU, Auburn and all the others tighten wallets because they (the cheaters) are undeserving of the fame and fortune they lust over at any cost. Btw I include UF in that equation should it apply.
None of this is a surprise to me. At Illinois Lon Kruger had a hard time getting Chicago recruits. When Bill Self took over the flood gates were wide open for some reason. As an Illinois alum I was very glad to see Self leave. A great many of Billy D's good recruits came from rich families: Horford, Noah, Lee are a few examples. Some came from very honest families: Bonner, Brewer for a few examples. The only one with a taint was Mike Miller and we just out worked a very lazy Kansas coach. Roy Williams just could not believe that we didn't cheat because in his experience ...
Please, send this to Scott Strickland and add that he needs to go to the offices of the SEC and the NCAA and start berating them for anything resembling compliance. He needs to take Lawyers with him and any AD that would like to see these shenanigans by the top schools squashed. If not, we should sue for no oversight by paid officials. Then we should get schools together on this and pull away from the NCAA. If Sankey and the SEC says, suck it up
I'm guessing this is why Donovan is happy in the NBA. Kentucky pulling their one and done yearly team swap was enough to push him out to a new challenge with a somewhat level playing field. At least more so than the college lie.
“But I wasn’t the bogeyman [federal investigators] wanted. They wanted high-profile names. They wanted Sean Miller. They wanted Will Wade. They wanted Rick Pitino. Add Caleperi and Coach K to that list.
and you can't tell me Coach K didn't know what was going on. I've always said, similar to Roy and the academic scandal at UNC -- not knowing is just as bad, complete lack of institutional control.
