Coach K played at Army under Bobby Knight. He did make the NIT semifinals as a player. Coach K averaged 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game that year. Coach Knight taught him how to curse at refs.
Can't argue that. Still how many of Billy's assistant have done well. Its so hard to find that right fix but a background of success is the best way to go.
Anthony Grant will be at Dayton for one more year at the most. He will have a monster team next year. I can’t imagine Linder being around for more than one more year. There’s some time pressure at Florida to get something done.
Don't you agree that Grant improved over the years. Why do you think White won't? Serious question what In your mind is his problem. I see players not highly ranked in the NBA. I want 1more year if he does not end up top 3-4 in SEC with sweet 16 at least I will say yes has to go. No classes ranked in top 20 but 1 I think so not bringing in top 5-10 ranked classes. That to me is biggest problem.
White belongs at a program that doesn't have championship expectations. He can do there what he has done here and live very comfortably and have a nice tenure. I agree that he has one year left here to show some movement, that is, if he elects to stay and not make a move.
Napier coached under Saban & Swinney. He learned a template which worked at Louisiana & hopefully will at UF. He's at least got that. CMW doesn't seem to have that yet. However, Leonard Hamilton was kept at fsu until he developed something so who knows.
Grant has always been a good coach, and he has gotten better. White, IMO, is not a good coach, and he has not improved while he has been at UF. His offensive concepts have not improved at all, and he still doesn’t know how to use his players.
Can probably pull out anecdotes to make any choice seem good or bad. Could use Donovan’s own staff as an example of going the Donovan background but not panning out. Pelfrey played for a final four at UK and coached in the final four for Donovan (elite coach) but he eventually didn’t succeed at a similar level as a head coach. On the other hand, Tony Bennett at UV never played in a final four. Never coached under a premier coach or at a big time program prior to UV. And yet he won a national title. Many paths and backgrounds can get you there.
Bennett did play in the NBA and his dad was a hell of a coach. Many thought he was the premier defensive coach in the country. He coached under his dad in the Big Ten and PAC 10 and was a head coach in the PAC 10 before UVA.
Tampajack1, did you watch the game tonight with Texas A&M? We needed whoever can coach offense and find decent filled out bodies that can stand the rigors of the physical SEC. If you broke or kicked your tv, well that’s all right because many Gator Basketball fans might be considering suicide, LOL. I have been trying to remain positive, but tonight ranks right up there with Texas Southern. Our team under our coach finds a way to play to the level of teams they play, then keep it close, hoping to win. I feel like coach is mailing it in like Mullen did. There is no way we should have been so passive in the first half. Dig a hole, jump in and run all day digging out, maybe, sometimes, hoping, praying for a win. This should signal the end!
I recorded it and then watched it. Honestly, I haven’t seen a Gator basketball team play this poorly since the 1998 team after Jason Williams was dismissed from the program.
Back to the topic of this thread, as a Wyoming grad you all need to keep your hands off our coach. To be truthful though, I wouldn't expect him to hang around too long if he continues to have this success.
