Does not mean your reasons are right When I read you said no one gets better with White as coach was all I needed to not pay attention to you. Cheese, wilberkin, Finny Smith no one had them as pro players including you. CC has improved all parts of his game. Reeves D and IQ, setting screens much better. JJ from last year till now is great. Mann improved his ball handling and on ball D Dujuli better all around. Only team to win first Rd game last 4 years.must not be easy to do. I hope he comes back but will back who ever is coaching Like the players coming in next year. JJ, Reeves, Kennedy, Niles, Gerkek, Appleby hopefully will be here still.
That's schmegegge you meshuggeneh. Although I appreciate you used a Yiddish insult that doesn't mean "penis". And yes, I had to look up the words I just used. I suppose we should stop with the Yiddish.
I would only add to this somewhat. What I find enjoyable posting/reading the game threads is some of the aspects in the game to highlight. Obviously the ones who are merely schizo are enjoyable in small doses before they become a hindrance to the overall enjoyment and as a result I find myself less interested in perusing the thread when things are going awry in long stretches. But "fan" is short for fanatic and it goes with the territory. For me I enjoy adding some insights, making some quick quips for getting my (and others') energies out, and supporting others who I think are a part of the overall enjoyment (especially those trying to keep the schizo train kind of slow moving). But lately I find I am not all that motivated to be a part of the threads, mainly because of the sense of a lack of progress in the program. It all feels like Groundhog Day. The actions on the TV are about the same, the results don't seem to move the needle in any direction (season-wise) and so when I want to add some of my insights (or even quips) all I have is rehashed stuff. And if I may opine, I think many folks do too, like whether a certain play that worked (or not) by a certain point guard on the team could have worked better (or worse) by one who left for greener pastures. I get it. This team, until further notice, is stuck in what it is, regardless of what may have happened with some healthier bodies. And so I am more a casual observer to the games (and really don't change my schedule to accommodate them) in this environment. I would call it what I think is a real problem: apathy. I can't speak for everyone but to me the real problem with a lack of motivation is a lack of motivation to open up the wallets and voices to move the program along. You have to realize that making angry sounds are the sounds of someone who cares (or is threatened). A lack of sound is someone who does not. Isn't isn't pretty but it is real.
Successive years of making the tournament and usually winning a game is overwhelming mediocrity? If so, then why is it that only a handful of programs have done it? Maybe it isn't reaching the ultimate goal, but to call it overwhelming mediocrity is hyperbole.
The problem, IMO, is that winning A game in the tourney appears to be MW's ceiling. He is not gifted enough as an offensive mind to maintain offensive success long enough to make a run to the final four or beyond. If our desire is just to make it to the tourney, well then, he's your guy.
Couldn’t like this more. We are not mediocre. Maybe for Gator fan expectations we are mediocre but when you objectively look at things we are above average.
It’s more of an oddity. Yeah, he’s “gotten” there to reach his mediocre level of 32 teams standing in the tourney. Despite the overall season being rated more 50-75 range, with years of poor fundamental offense. But who wouldn’t trade 1 of those “appearances” for an NIT, in exchange for just 1 run at a final 4? That streak also looks very much in question this year. Maybe we sneak in and win exactly 1 game yet again. That probably saves his job, but it’s not confidence inspiring that there is a higher ceiling than what we see.
If you are being generous and including every D1 school including tiny private schools or directional schools, sure, we are “above average”. If you look at major conferences and the SEC? We have pretty much been the definition of mediocre. The only real feature of white is that he’s managed to be consistently mediocre, without a great season, and without a season where the bottom totally falls out like a last place team.
He’s finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the SEC out of the 6 years he has been here. Now factor in 4 straight tourney wins and an Elite 8 appearance and that is considered mediocre/average to you? I strongly disagree.
I don't think a NIT is worth a exchange for anything in the NCAA. Do they even televise the NIT any more?
Not counting the current unfinished season, he has had a 2nd, third, 4th, 5th and 2 8ths in his 6 years at UF. That averages out to a 6th. That’s not particularly good, especially considering that several SEC programs are getting better and better.
It actually averages out to 5th. I’m not disagreeing with anyone that wants more out of our program and those that think a new coach could get us there. I’m just stating it hasn’t been THAT bad. People portray MW as mediocre or bad or terrible and it’s just flat out wrong.
hmmm... who says that's not particularly good? I wonder what someone with with a calculator could do with six year windows of other teams in the SEC. With Hall of Fame Coach Donovan? Also - please show your work. 2+3+4+5+8+8=30 and 30/6= 5 not 6th Perhaps the point is UF under White is more consistent than just about every other SEC team - despite the fact that we have fallen behind some other ones THIS year. I dunno, I agree that we are not where we were with Hall of Fame Coach Donovan. Is that a realistic expectation?
Let’s just ignore the Elite 8, huh. Also… how many teams regularly advance to the final four and beyond? Your standard is extremely unrealistic.
Oddity? That's an interesting way to characterize it. The streak might come to an end, but that doesn't mean it's time to panic. Did UK make it in last year? UNC? Ok, then.
