3 rebounds and a steal with no turnovers against Ole Miss, played 28 minutes,6 more than Duruji. Duruji had 4 rebounds,1 assist, 1 steal, 1 turnover and 2 pts. About the same, both playing great defense and getting some rebounds. Niels is going to figure out, with more playing time, his slashing plays for points. Might need to use the glass more on his shooting. He is doing what CMW needs, a physical presence to defend and rebound. scoring will be a bonus for him and the team. All good, go Niels!
No worries at all. Was just curious. Sometimes I know I've made comments where I get someone responding like that, so was just a little confused on this one. Go Gators!
Well, it’s better than me mixing up Eli Kennedy’s name with Eli Mitchell’s name up until halfway through the season.
Should have been, would of had no reason to say that. I only mess with Tampa, he's a good sport we just don't agree on some things.
So many things that a player does to benefit their team does not get shown in the stat sheet. Lane is very disruptive on the defensive end, but it doesn't always show up as steals.
SEC Network Analyst "Joel Klein"* butchered a few of the Gator players names vs Ole Miss including "McKinsic". This isn't football where you have nearly 200 guys running around, some with the same numbers. By now, he should know the names of 26 scholarship players. * I once worked with a Joel Klein so I needed to stick that one in.
Something was going on here. I mean- we needed guys off the bench w/ CC's injury, yet Lane didn't play vs OM and UT. Then all of a sudden he's now getting 13, 18, and 29! minutes the last 3 games. I'm the last guy on the "fire the coach' train. But unless there was another more reasonable explanation here (like Lane had the flu) then it's just one more reason to smh at CMW. I'm starting to really wonder if he can handle the pressure at UF.
One more example of why White needs to go. Lane didn’t turn into a lockdown defender overnight, and yet he didn’t get into 13 games at all this season. In addition to the crazy chaos on offense, I am not sure that I have seen many coaches who took less advantage of his roster than White.
It makes my source's story seem very valid. I think there was a falling out with CMW at practice. It's crazy how long he held that grudge. But like I said people can believe what they want.
I got these numbers from the article but the math is my own. Before starting the 2nd half vs Ok State, Lane had 45 minutes in 7 games (6.5 per game), and had 13 games where he never got on the floor. So out of 820 or so possible minutes, Lane got 5.5%. Assuming he wasn't sick or on covid protocol, or hurt, etc. But from that point, in just 2.5 games, he's played 59 minutes out of a possible 105. This is 56%. I know Jitoboh got hurt, but still. Did Lane improve so much so quickly?? If not, could he have made a difference in some of our losses? I can't help but wonder as he went from 5.5% to 56%! It definitely lends credence to Tenor's story, which I always believed. (And I'm not a CMW basher, though he has lost me lately.) Trying to look on the bright side- I'm so glad Lane is playing now.
I like Lane, but you guys are acting like he's Michael Jordan. He has three made field goals on the season. Let's pump the brakes before we put him on the All-NCAA 1st Team.
Not really. People are questioning White’s personnel decisions just like people were questioning Mullen regarding how playing time was handled. When players go from no playing time to playing over half the game and making a significant contribution, people will rightly question the coaching staff. You are understating how important he can be since he doesn’t score a lot of points. Scoring points isn’t the only way a player can contribute.
Questioning White's decisions over Lane? Come on man. You guys are being prisoners of the moment. He is essentially starting over Jones who was shooting inexplicably poorly. Now, we are starting to see what Jones can do when he's hitting. If you think that Jones should have sat the bench for Lane at the beginning of the season, then I don't know what to tell you. Nobody expected that Jones would struggle for so long. I am not underestimating Lane, you are overestimating him. I don't necessarily think he should come off the bench, either. Jones is providing some good firepower coming off the bench. Lane is making a contribution. I'm glad he's getting playing time, but no people questioning White over this are not "rightly" questioning him. Under most circumstances, people would be questioning why he is starting a guy who doesn't score.
Considering your basketball background, you surprise me at times. No one is saying that Lane is an all-American. However, White not playing him for a year and a half and then starting him is a joke. Similar crap has gone on with several other players in the past 7 years, and all we hear from some of you is that they were not good enough to play. Open your eyes up. White doesn’t have a clue as to how to maximize the talent on his roster, and it is ruining the team.
How is it a joke? Castleton and JJ were hurt. Jones and McKissic were struggling. The team was struggling. So... next man up let's give Lane a shot. How is this hard to understand. Lane is doing ok as starter... he's not overly impressive as some of you are exaggerating. What is Lane doing that proves he should have been a starter or that he should even remain a starter? Team is winning, so no need to really upset things, but Lane is averaging like less than one point per game.
