I watched the 1st 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of Wyoming's road game Sunday night against a solid Fresno State team. Wyoming won by 2 points to move to 19-3 on the season. This is an extraordinarily well-coached team. The ball and player movement on offense is really fun to watch. The defensive scheme also is solid. Coach Jeff Linder will not be at Wyoming for very long.

44 yo Colorado boy that's spent all but 2 years (in TN) west of the Rockies. Maybe he'd move to the south east of some big program had an opening. Don't know...

basketball recruiting is more national than other sports, and Florida is the least southern state in the south. Sits like the anti-Harsin move.
That said, we have a coach for now.

We surely do have a coach right now, but posters are constantly asking about who out there would be an upgrade and would consider the Florida job.

Seems good but only 2nd year at Wyoming
Not to good of first year 14-11 8th in conference. Be a gamble but most coaches would.
Should be in dance, maybe we can met up if we get in.

I would need to know his stance on flipping the cameras before I could sign off.

They were 9-24 overall and 2-16 in the conference the year before he became the coach, but improving to 14-11 overall and 5-9 in the conference in his first year is not too good. Hmmm.

There are several good coaches out there but getting one that has ties to recruiting in the south will be extremely important. Finding someone that can recruit will be just as important as their ability to coach.

Laramie Wyoming is not a great place to live. Nothing but cold windy tumbleweeds in the winter and scorching hot dust in the summer. But my mama taught me that if I didn't have anything good to say, to keep my mouth shut. So I will.

Please watch Wyoming play and report back. Billy came from a coaching job in
West Virginia. He and his staff turned out to be excellent recruiters. I would take my chances on the recruiting end if we could nab a young exceptional coach. Recruits will be drawn to an SEC Florida program that has a great coaching staff. I have a feeling that this guy will be gone from Wyoming after this season.

I don’t doubt that he is a good coach, my concern is that I don’t know what kind of recruiter he is. Donovan had the experience of knowing how to recruit because he worked for Pitino and saw what it took to get top talent. Donovan also had the hunger to prove that he could compete with the top dogs for recruits and was relentless. Maybe this coach is too, I don’t know. If so, he would be perfect.

True. Billy was a gamble and White was a gamble. As the great Kenny Rogers wrote many years ago: “You got to know when to hold ‘em. Know when to fold “em.”

    Steve Stricklin don’t know.

Billy was a gamble but yet a safe bet. He had been to a Final Four as a player, was an assistant to Pitino at Kentucky so he knew what was involved with running a program at the highest level. White played and was an assistant at Ole Miss, a place where making the dance is a crowning achievement. Huge difference in the risk versus reward between choosing Donovan and White. Donovan clearly had a much better chance of success because of the pedigree. White didn’t have a clue on how to run an elite basketball program because he had never played or coached at one. So, in hind sight, White wasn’t a wise choice to make if Florida ever wanted to match what Donovan built.

You have coaches who never played college that have done well. Many coaches were not good players either you have it or don't.
Does not matter if you played at Div 1 or at Kentucky.

Yes, but given a choice the safer bet would be one that has the better pedigree. That’s the point I’m trying to make. There was much less risk in hiring Donovan because he came from a background of so much success.

Do you apply that same logic to Billy Napier?
