Yeah buddy! Three nights of lows from 24* to 28* a one day gap and then they’re back like we didn’t have any cold weather….

BTW- that Cutter’s Dry unscented spray is as good as anything we’ve ever used-goes on dry/no smell/and works. Here we find it at Lowe’s.

FWIW, I've preferred "Cutter's" products over "Off" for many years now. We haven't had skeeters here in a while though thankfully. The last product I bought were wipes (towelettes) and still have plenty.

I am subscribed to the local police blog. Get an email twice daily. From today....check it out - Big Joes Subs getting some pub!:

Traffic Crash – 523 Canal Street (Big Joe’s Subs). Two vehicles, minor damage, no injuries, and no citations issued.

Filet mignon seared in butter on a cast iron skillet and finished in a hot oven, mashed potatoes, romaine salad.

Going to make some herbed butter to top the filets.

Going with the really old Wapak cast iron skillet instead of the younger Lodge one.

And this one has the Erie ghost marks so it has some real collector value.

Busy morning here getting stuff done so I could get back in time for the Hawaii Five-O block on H&I.

Picked up provisions for Mom and then to Popeyes to grab some chicken for her and I (and Winkipop of course). Ordered three 8-packs of nuggets and two 8-packs of tenders.

No meals - just the chicken.

She told me "That will be $70. (and change)."

Yes that's correct - $70+ for some chicken tenders and nuggets.

Excuse my French- but holy cow!

I asked why so much and first after checking they accidentally charged me for one more tender order than I ordered. Then she said the 8 piece tenders were $17 each!

I said "That can't be right - are you sure that's not for a meal?"

And for the record I was very clam and polite the entire time.

Long story short - another person (assuming the manager) came over and hit a few buttons on the register and the whole order ended up around $34.

If she hadn't done that I was going to cancel the $17 tenders and order the $6 boxes instead...3 tenders, 2 sides, and a biscuit.

The bottom line is Mom was super happy and next time I guess I will do a little more homework before my next purchase there.

BTW, I've bought these before and they weren't that much so I don't know what's going on.

Lastly...it's amazing to me that someone working there at the takeout window can actually tell someone their order is $70.+ ---- just for a few small boxes of chicken?

    What's wrong with people?

I would say something here, but I won't.

It might be taken as too political.

Sent a thank you note as follows:
The soup was good! Not used to eating Kale and Squash together in a soup so that was different...lol.

    The reply:

Thanks for the feedback. Kale is an acquired taste.

    All good.....as it should be......

I used to use skin so soft for sand gnats too, that ended after one of the local boys at the boat ramp told me I smelled sweet. I immediately had a flashback to Ned Beatty, and haven’t put it on since.

Tonight I’m going to be grilling a half boneless pork loin indirect over cherry wood smoke. Going to season it with coarse black pepper and Everglades Cactus Dust.

Inside we’ll have a pot of freshly steamed broccoli and cauliflower and a pot of Dixie Lily yellow rice covered with Rotel tomatoes.

The back porch is open for your leisure and adult beverages are available as desired.

Last night was the last bit of lasagna that we made a while ago. I also smoked two chickens for making all kinds of things in the next week or so. Tonight we will eat shredded chicken with sauteed rapini. Tomorrow should be chicken enchiladas with lots of leftovers.

Tonight I’ll be grilling some bone-in country cut ribs indirect over cherry wood smoke. Yep, Pat’s Homade on the last two turns.

We will finish up our leftover vegetables being green beans and new potatoes, and steam the remainder of the broccoli and cauliflower.

The back porch is open, restocked, and ready for your company.

Yesterday I bought some soba noodles from my Asian market as well as some bonito flakes. Bonito flakes is dried and shaved mackerel. I have the konbu (dried kelp) for making dashi with the bonito flakes. There are several kinds of dashi, but this one is the typical one for miso soup and what I will use as a start to making soba noodle soup. Adding soy sauce and mirin, of course.

There is no single recipe for soba noodle soup. I will make mine with julienned carrots and mushrooms. I wanted to add scallions, but there were none to be found at my Publix. I do have a shallot so I might go "fusion" on this. LOL.

By now, just in case any of y’all are wondering—Lurk’s the one with the long white cook apron and high top white chef’s hat on—and I’m the one in blue jeans, boots, and a kitchen towel stuck in my back pocket, and an ice cold longneck in my hand. Other than that I think we probably cook about alike…:D:D:D

Keeping it inside and simple tonight. We will have chicken’n’rice and grilled cheese sandwiches for supper.

Pretty dreary day here today—overcast, rain, and windy—wash, rinse, repeat.

A kinda raw day so not too sure about back porch time this evening. A relaxing adult libation is available however.
