Niels came in and provided good minutes and was a factor in the win but let's not get carried away that he is the answer to all of the problems.
I agree, he didn't leave because he wasn't going to get playing time. Nembhard would have had plenty of minutes. I think it was something else, and this story I was told makes me think that Mike can have an attitude with his players.
No but I would say 90%of them did like all players on all teams. Cheese stayed made NBA, Wilberkin stayed doing alright CC has a chance now to make NBA Dujuli has a chance now to make NBA Reeves I think will play in NBA I think he is a good coach you don't it's how it goes. We both think we are right. Coached 13/15 for 15 years, some years great coach, some years not so much depending on the players.
No, but it raises questions as to what this coaching staff is thinking regarding playing time and personnel. This is a guy who hadn’t seen the court in a month, and who suddenly gets a shot and sparks a comeback win. That raises the question of what is going on? Usually players don’t improve from garbage to contributor during a season without having that ability the entire time. Players with a huge hole in their game that precludes them from contributing usually require many months of practice to improve. Other players just need consistent opportunities to show what they got. Giving consistent opportunities is also how you get young players to buy-in and not transfer.
Lane still has some major holes in his game, but after a horrible first half by his regulars, CMW threw caution to the wind and inserted a guy that hadn't played in 5 weeks to give us a defensive spark. I don't see Lane as more than a spot player, but with certain matchups, his defense first attitude could be the difference between a close loss and a close victory
Unfortunately, we'll never know why some of these guys never got much of a chance to show what they could do. Maybe it would be obvious if we were at practice every day. I liked Okauru, Ruzhnetsev and Glover. I thought last year that Lane could contribute if he got over his jitters-he's a big bodied guard who can certainly defend. Its hard to imagine Lane doesn't have any offense skills. But we're not at practice and nobody talks about it, so who knows what a really going on.
Good players but do you think they would be playing on teams we are trying to catch up to. Do you think they would be playing for Ken, Aub or any top 30 team. Maybe Glover. . We have had 10 all SEC players transfer in your mind.
Ruzhnetsev would be a star in the SEC. In Gak’s first game at Cal Baptist (against USC), he played a great game against Evan Mobley, who likely will be NBA ROY this year. Okauru, Hester, Bassett and others could all have been solid rotational players on plenty of very good SEC teams.
Ruzh left to play for money.The others no better then the players we have now. Would take Appleby over Hester, okauru. Reeves and Kennedy also You think Gaks better then CC or JJ or Dujuli. Heck I would take the 175lb over Gak. I wish all of them well but we replaced them with as good or better players. Players leave every program not just Fla. If White gets classes like last one and next year he will be a better coach. We have ave like 7th in SEC in recruiting yet ave finishing 5th. If he stays next year will be a good team. If he goes some one will come into good situation. Either way will chear them on.
AN and Noah were starters that left. Perhaps they would be best out, but you usually don’t see starters leaving good basketball schools. That means they had an issue with the coach and his system.
Wait... he sparked a comeback win with 0 points, 0-1 shooting, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. I'm going to have to strongly disagree with your premise. Guys come into a game and play better than they had in the past all the time. Lane's decent performance the other night isn't an indictment upon the coaching staff for not giving him more burn. It's not like he was dazzling us with a flurry of amazingly complex moves/plays. IIRC, he made some nice blocks.
And did the guys White usually plays do that well? No? Part of making a comeback is preventing the other team from scoring. That seems to be something the other players getting more playing time couldn’t do. This is like arguing a DL isn’t any good because he “only” takes up 2-3 blockers every play instead of making the tackle himself. Stat sheet isn’t everything and doesn’t tell the whole story. That is the whole issue. Like Mullen and the QB position this year. The players on the court aren’t getting it done, yet White sits there and does nothing. When White finally gives a bench player a shot, that player sparks the team. I get that you think White can do no wrong, but there is a reason we have had so many players transfer the past 6-7 years.
It was the Gators' second half defense that won them the game. Lane was one of the sparks of that defense.
I have criticized Coach White on things I feel are wrong. Saying that Lane played remarkably or even sparked the comeback is hyperbole, IMO. He did his job and he contributed to the win. But… let’s not act like he dropped a 40 point triple double and proved Mike White should give him 30 minutes a game. He was not the difference in the game. Realizing there are exactly 200 minutes in a regulation game with no OT, to give Lane minutes means to take minutes from someone else. Who should he take minutes from? Fleming? Duruji? Reeves? Felder? Jones? What exactly are you advocating for?
