I can see that. I mean that even a few of those were white supporters. I'm ready for a change but I'd never root for them to lose. Again. In a perfect world the light turns on and we put together a couple runs in the regular season and conference tourney, he keeps his job and then hires some staff to fix the recurring issues. I just don't see that happening.
He's a known quantity and you're right, the best outcome is for the light to go on. I have doubts about that too, though. OTOH, I know its not a great idea to hang on to someone just because his replacement could be worse, but that is a recurring thought that goes through my mind.
I get the 2nd part but I refuse to believe fsu should be a better program than Florida but it is right now. Throw in auburn, bama etc as well. We have shown our potential as a program and we aren't hitting it right now.
All of them have recruited better than we have for the past several years. My biggest issue with White is recruiting. Some of it is out of his control, but he is capable of doing better than he is, just based on a few of his wins in that department. The fact that he had to raid the portal last year just to field a team is a bad sign.
Do you even Watch the Games???? Players that you all complained about stepped up and won the game. Are you even a Gator? We have a top recruiting class coming in next year. Two 6-10 guys are coming next year that who can score. Have you watched any of their highlights?
I hope this was a sarcastic post, but don't see any emojis that indicate this. If you think that somehow today's win is some kind of indication that things are swell, you are quite delusional. FYI, Okie State is a 10-10 team that is ineligible to play in the tourney and this win was Quad 2 or best. Yes, it was a great comeback. They deserve a lot of credit for fighting back and winning, but don't get carried away.
Exactly, it's rather telling anyone would need to chest thump about beating a 10-10 team AT HOME. I guess we expected to lose to a .500 team on Probation? That's where we're at now? I actually *did* sort of expect to lose this game being down to 0 bigs, I'm pleased the guys scrapped and fought back in the game while badly short handed (and some hot shooting certainly helped!). But it's fair to say the season hangs in the balance here. Probably need to do this next stretch 3-0 IMO, or it gets tough the rest of the way (we have 3 games where we would be favored, then 4 games where we might go 0-4). I don't think we can afford more than about 4-5 losses from here, so you do the math. Not much margin for error. It still seems closer to going down the tubes and barely staying .500 than making the NCAA tournment. I will say that if Castleton remains out and White can manage to finish somewhat according to book, getting into the tourney again, he would deserve plenty of credit just for holding it together. But I expect a bit of choppiness.
I completely agree. They really need the next 3 if the Gators are going to get into the NCAA Tournament. I think the Gators need to go 9-9 in the SEC based on pretty good computer rankings to get in... but I just can't see UF getting there without the next 3. The big one is next at Mizzo. Get that game and have a pretty good shot at home vs Miss and UGA. Then the Gators best shot is to win 3 in a row at home vs Ark, at UGA and at Vandy. None of those feel like gimmies either. Falter in any of those and the next most likely win would be at Texas A&M. After that looks bleak. Having a hard time seeing UF winning any of the 3 games vs UK and Auburn. Of the 3, I'd say Auburn at home is the best shot on a ridiculous shooting night. Can't see UF beating UK in either game.
It's ok. Ita just what they do. Even one of White's biggest pumpers agreed he couldn't defend what was happening this year before the injuries yet he is back on the train after an admittedly gutsy win. They crow after a win and then ignore the rest of what happens on the court. There are mike white critics who may deserve some Ire but your comments were constructive and mild for to elicit that kind of a response in my opinion.
I was never off the train. I only said I wouldn't argue with people who want him gone unless he started showing and proving again. And I don't necessarily crow after every win, nor do I disappear after a loss. I'm far less of a pumper than you are a detractor.
Lol ok. Check my posting history on the guy. I wavered end of last year and jumped off the train this year with still a hint of hope something would change for the better with him.
If White would try to make something like Billy Donovan did with the Larry Shyatt hire but for his offense I'd be right back on the White train. I'm just tired of the same methods and same results. Evolve.
So, we’ll put you down as satisfied with the 7 year trend? Got it. But, acting like there aren’t legit complaints/concerns about MW is just a joke.
I'm not really asking for NC. All I look for is at least win the regular SEC title or 1 SEC tournament. Oats from Bama won a regular SEC his 2nd year. The cheater from LSU won too. I don't need to name all other coaches that came into the SEC after him that won something. This is the the best opportunity to win something. Especially, UK is not the UK it was.
I like the "are you a gator?" question thrown in there as well. To answer his question, I've been one since I enrolled at UF in August of 1983.
I'd say plenty of effort and integrity. I'm proud of everything except the progression and improvement.
First of all I attend just about every home game as a season ticket holder. As far as the Odome being full for most games, that is never going to happen. Many season ticket holders are the same wealthy patrons who support football. They purchase season tickets in order to have seats when they choose to attend, which is once or twice a year. Each year over 9000 tickets are presold, meaning only about 3000 remain open for game day purchase. Why do they come to only one to three games a year? Because the travel to Gainesville from their Florida home is too far to take for a week day game in their opinion. Football wise they come to the Swamp six or so times a year, which encompasses the entire home schedule. That factor is not going to change no matter how many people write about "lack of support" here on Gator Country. It's a fact that Saturday games come close to filling the basketball arena, while mid week games usually find the place half full. We stand to lose SEVEN of the thirteen players on scholarship this season. By the way the decision to change the TV cameras used to televise games from where they are now to the other side, so the picture TV watches get is off our Rowdy section and not the alumni side has been made. The cost will be around $850,000 but the UAAA finally has realized that showing empty seats on the alumni side during each TV game is projecting a bad image on our basketball program. Our present coaching staff can't keep pace with the better programs in the SEC, not even mentioning falling behind recruiting at FSU and Miami. Coach White has resorted to the portal to fill his roster. His five choices this season have done okay but none of them stands out in relationship to the other SEC schools with winning records in the conference. As fans we barely get to know the names and personalities of these one year additions to our basketball squad before they leave. This will continue to be the case as long as the present portal rules are in effect. Yes, we signed three seemingly top notch players to next year's squad but will we be able to surround them with next years crop of portal players, as well as the few returning lettermen? The answer will come soon but I am not holding my breath that it will break the mediocre seasons we have seen under White in the past seven years. I have never been a "fire the coach" kind of guy, but anyone who loves Gator basketball has to see we are stuck in mediocrity right now. Whether the UAA comes up with an agreement to part ways with Mike White this season or next, I will be in my season seats each and every home game.
